The days grow shorter, the holiday decorations go up and the year comes to an end. Tomorrow night we will hold our annual General Membership Meeting at the Perry Hall Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library. Pizza and other refreshments will be served at 6:00 pm with the meeting beginning at 6:30. In addition to looking back at some of BRRC's accomplishments in 2015, we will also present Grand Prix Series awards and elect our 2016 Board. Our Nominating Committee has done a tremendous job providing us with a fine slate of candidates for board positions and even providing members with a written report on each. Even though the official nominating period has ended, let me know if you would like to serve on the board next year and I will be sure that your name is added to the ballot. Any member that has been active for more than six months can serve. The meeting will adjourn promptly at 8:30 and I invite all members to attend this once-a-year gathering.
We opened the membership renewal process last week and it will remain open through the end of January. Our calendar-year membership cycle makes managing our members more efficient and aides us in the process of compiling GPS standings. If you're interested in competing in the GPS Series next year - and I know you are - you must renew your membership by January 31st. At 22 bucks a year, you can't ask for a better deal. Aside from the buffet of year-round $2 races, other member benefits include free participation in our training groups led by certified coaches, paid entry into Club Challenge, an invitation to the club's summer picnic, becoming a part of the welcoming running community - but you guys know this already.
We're in need of a few race directors here shortly. As of now, I personally have stepped up and volunteered to take on the GPS 8 Miler and Cupid's Crush. I'm looking for anyone who is interested in learning the ins-and-outs of organizing a low-key race to 'shadow' me with one or both of these events this year. Then I will encourage them to take on a race of their own in the future. The 8 Miler in particular is a great opportunity for a first-timer. If race directing is something that you've been wanting to tackle, the experience is quite rewarding. Feel free to email me and we can get the ball rolling.
I'm excited thinking about all we have to look forward to in the following year from BRRC. The increase in membership and race entries, coupled with our outstanding training programs and the strength of our volunteers - there's no doubt that 2016 will be an exceptional year for our club.
Thank you for being a part of BRRC. I hope to see you tomorrow night.
