Renew Membership Now!  See You in 2014!

New Membership Renewal Now Active

As announced in previous updates and at last week's General Membership Meeting, beginning in January 2014, BRRC will renew all members at the beginning of the year.  This change will allow the Club better management of membership and qualification for the Grand Prix Series and other Club awards.  To make the renewal process more convenient, renewal is now open.  Plus, if you renewed or joined anytime in December, your membership is active through 2014.  Thank you for your understanding as we make this change.

Happy Holidays from BRRC!

During this holiday season, we appreciate the value of our running friendships, the companionship provided by our training groups and group runs, and the friendly competition of our many races.  Most importantly, we appreciate the commitment to running and to the club of our members and tireless volunteers.  As you enjoy the holidays, we hope you will tie on the shoes, fit your fingers into gloves, and hit the road as a proud member of BRRC.  We look forward to seeing you out there.  Happy Holidays from BRRC!

Middle Distance Training Group Winter-Spring Program to Begin Soon

On January 9 at the Goucher College track, the BRRC Middle Distance Training Group (MDTG) will begin its Winter/Spring program.  Are you interested in training for one of the Spring half-marathons or perhaps the famous Cherry Blossom 10 Miler?  Have you always wanted to try a training group but have never taken that first step?  Have you thought about track work as part of your training but failed to get out?  The MDTG provides a wonderful opportunity to work with RRCA certified coaches to execute a training program that will help you achieve your race results.  And, it's free!  All that is required is BRRC membership and a willingness to show up at the sessions and run.  All paces are welcome.  See here for more information.

Father Time Frolic Kicks Off New Year

Join us on January 1st to ring in the New Year at the Father Time Frolic, a predicted time race that features prizes to the top six winners.  This does not mean the six fastest runners, but rather the top six participants to come closest to their predicted time for this 5 mile race at Loch Raven.  No watches allowed!  Predict your time at the start of the race and see how you do.  It's also a great way to burn off those holiday calories, and what better way to start the New Year than with a race!  We will meet at Peerce's Plantation for registration starting at 8:15.  The race begins at 9:00 am.  $2 for members and $6 for non-members.  Race Directors, Bailey and Christy St. Clair.  Contact them to volunteer.

Seeking Volunteers

We are seeking members to volunteer with events in 2014.  There are opportunities for directing races, assisting with races, and helping with club administration.  Our strength as a Club is dependent on the commitment of our volunteers.  Please let us know that you would like to help.

Quote of the Month

“The distance runner is mysteriously reconciling the separations of body and mind, of pain and pleasure, of the conscious and the unconscious. He is repairing the rent, and healing the wound in his divided self. He has found a way to make the ordinary extraordinary; the commonplace unique; the everyday eternal.”
― George Sheehan, Running & Being: The Total Experience
