Your September update from BRRC!

THANK YOU, BRRC!

by Henry Peck

I have had the pleasure of traveling to many destination races this year, and I take interest in seeing how it’s going, the trends, at those events.  Also, being President of our club, I am communicating and reading a lot of running relevant stuff, which gives me extra exposure to the logistical needs in the running community at large, as well.  What is clear is there are lots of races, more every year, and unfortunately, there are too many needs to graciously support all of the great runs and intentions.  There is not enough support for all of them, there is a shortage of volunteers, race directors, participants.

At BRRC, we are so fortunate!  The line between members, participants, and volunteers is  blurry here!  On a personal and vocational note, I thank all of you for your contributions to your club and to running, at all levels.  Please know that the Board and the critical mass of the club are committed to recognizing and rewarding all of you, as always, and more than ever.  Again, we know we are fortunate, and are committed to keeping it that way!

Thanks to our many volunteers at last weekend’s Executive Stampede, our 38th! including : Lokesh Meena, Jennifer Richards, Ken Furman, Casey Fisher, Don Riley, TJ Bryan, Rick Burns, Dan Buccino, Dmitriy Valekha, Dan Hawk, Ginnie Welsh, Leslie Fort, Sally Waller, Bucky Rulon-Miller, Leigh Peck, Don Tice, Derek Krueger, and Tom Jennings.

OUR NEXT RACE:
The GPS Series Half Marathon on the NCR TRAIL!

On Sunday, October 1st, we will have our half marathon in Sparks.  Typically at this time of year, the weather turns cooler, and your pace picks up.  For many of us, this half marathon is the ideal tuneup run for the marathon season, or dialing in a longer goal race.  This is the 7th of 8 Grand Prix Races, but like all of our events, the race is open to anyone.  Race day only entry, this may be approached as a low key run……but any time you go 13.1, it is the real deal!   Enjoy the run, and see you there!

AND THEN, BRRC'S "NIGHT MOVES"!
Baltimore's FIRST NIGHT TRAIL RACE!

Bring your light, this is the real deal! I am longing to see that conga line of lights and runners on the single track trail in Baltimore!  It is so overdue to the greater Baltimore running community! Thanks to the Friends of Cromwell Valley Park and Talmar, we are hosting this  first of its kind race.  The race will start just after sundown in beautiful Cromwell Valley Park.  The race will be 6-ish miles starting and ending in the Talmar area and includes some "rolling" hills and fast single track along with a fast downhill finish.  Each runner will receive what we believe to be the highest quality running seat cover available, and a free beer on us at McFaul’s IronHorse Tavern, adjacent to the park.  Grab your light and come celebrate participating in an historic run with us!

BRRC WATERSTOP AT THE BALTIMORE MARATHON, AN ANNUAL TRADITION!!

We invite you to volunteer at the BRRC water stop at the Baltimore Running Festival on Oct 21. If you aren't running that day, it's a great way to be involved. We are at the 9.5 mi marker for the full marathon, and this year we get the 5k runners also!

You will be showered with BRRC hospitality!  Come hungry and happy!  There is coffee, hot chocolate, donuts, bagels, lunch, a shirt, and running camaraderie!  Thanks to those who have already volunteered!

If you want to volunteer, please email Suzie Boltz, a BRRC 2017 Volunteer of the Year, at 50shares@comcast.net.  This is a good opportunity for children seeking service hours!

Date: Oct 21
Time: 6:30 am til about 11 am
