We started February off on a great note at the Super Bowl Trail Race
. The trails of Cromwell Valley were in excellent shape, we had a ton of wonderful volunteers, a well marked course and a great post race party. If you weren't there, you really missed out. You can relive all of the excitement through photographs posted on our Flickr

Valentine's Day weekend was spent postponing Cupid's 10K Crush
. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the decision when Rob Santoni
and I made the call, but then listening to that wind HOWL the next morning? That would have been a disaster! Rob summed it up perfectly: "I'm just imagining registration sheets and bagels flying everywhere! Nevermind the cold!" The good news is that registration
is still open for our rescheduled date (March 8th
) through next week. It still promises to be a fun and FAST race with lots of great prizes. Maybe our race director will keep with the cupid theme and sport a diaper. We'll have to see.
was cancelled the following weekend in an early call from the Howard County Striders
. Turned out to be the right call as Old Man Winter messed us up yet again. I was bummed to hear the news - Club Challenge is always one of my favorite races of the year (in a weird 'I Like To Run Hills and Make A Lot Of Turns' kind of way). I can't think of another local 10 miler where the top 40 runners are flying through at under 6:00 minutes a mile. We're waiting to hear if the race can be rescheduled. My fingers are crossed.
We saw the start of BRRC's Couch to 5K
Training led by Ginnie Welsh
this month. It's a ten week program designed for people who want to complete their first 5K, runners looking to improve their skills, or for anyone looking for inspiration or camaraderie. We've had a lot of runners signing up on our website
and I'm excited to meet all of you out on the roads. I was a former C25K runner myself, and I know it can sometimes be intimidating, but we've got a welcoming, warmhearted group. I encourage you to get involved and keep moving! I can remember when I couldn't run a mile without stopping (and dying). Now I've run countless marathons, ultra marathons, you name it. We all start somewhere and I'm glad you're starting with BRRC
In addition to C25K, the club is also offering a 5K to 10K
