July update from BRRC

Greetings, BRRC!  I see so many of you enjoying the running lifestyle on the trails, roads, ultras, track, destination and vacation runs!  Congratulations to everyone on their summer running adventures!   Live well and live large, BRRC.  Here is your Club’s July Newsletter!

Congratulations to our Sweet Air trail runners!

This year’s Sweet Air trail race returned on July 8th to a full 8 miles.  We share this race with our great Harford County neighbors, RASAC, http://runharford.com/ .  There are so many great clubs and races, it is rewarding and good sense when we can combine our energies; this race is an excellent example.  Our renowned trail Race Director Bart Rein reports that this year’s course was complete with two wide and deep river crossings and was welcomed by all.  The weather was unseasonably cool and perfect for this year’s race. Overall winner and 2017 BRRC Trail Runner of the Year Dusty Meeker finished in a blistering 53:50, and the 1st place female finisher Crystal Achuo finished in an equally impressive time of 1:05:58. There were 129 finishers overall. Everyone enjoyed the cool temps and the watermelon after the race. The awesome volunteers were Kelli Rostkowski, Brian Flowers, Suzie Boltz, James Brinsfield, Tom Edwards, Mary Kay Pogar, Phil Pawlukovitch, and Dan Macedo.

Next Race(s)! More Summer Track Series!
Our 3rd of 4 Track Meets is this Wednesday, July 18th, at Goucher. We have runners from toddlers on up! And, it is true!  This meet has The fabulous BRRC Steeplechase!  If you are not running, you may want to watch, or volunteer for the best seat in the house!

The details for our track meets can be found at www.brrc.com  All of our track meets are free, open to all, with race day registration only. We are holding all of our track series meets at the excellent Goucher College track.

TOO HOT TO TROT in the City!

This year’s  2H2T is on Sunday, July 29th, in Patterson Park.  This is the 7th of 9 races in our Grand Prix Series.   All runners are welcome and you do not have to be a GPS participant or club member to run this race.  You do need to be a member and run in 3 of our GPS races to be a finalist in Baltimore’s Running Championship GPS!

This 4 mile race is an almost all paved path course with a little sidewalk and brick, entirely in the park, without any public road crossings.  The start and finish are near the Patterson Park Central Pavilion, where will have race day registration, awards, and race singlet pickup.
Are you looking for a cool, great racing SINGLET?!  Thanks to you and the great people at Ragnar, https://www.runragnar.com/ , we have BRRC RACING SINGLETS for swag at this year’s race!

We will have offer an online preregistration this week for $10 for our members, a great value!     Watch for your discounted registration opportunity at www.brrc.com  and at http://www.brrc.com/too-hot-trot-7   later this week.

We will be awarding prize money to BRRC members for the top three male and female overall finishers - 1st place, $50 - 2nd place, $40 - 3rd place, $30.

We are looking for a few volunteers to help on race day.   If you are interested in volunteering please click here, or contact our Race Directors Valencia Hike (valenciarenee@hotmail.com) or Adria Lucca (alucca@verizon.net).

The 2-Person 10-Mile Relay RETURNS!

It is back!  On Thursday, August 2nd, we are running at the 33rd Street track, thanks to Johns Hopkins University.  Plenty of free parking and a great track.  It has been a few years, but the BRRC is resurrecting the 2-person, 10-mile relay and is relocating the race to its new home in the city! So find yourself a partner and come on out to compete in this one-of-a-kind race. Partners will alternate miles, with each partner running 5 miles for a total of 10 per team. Your recovery time between mile repeats will depend on the speed of your partner, so choose wisely! Teams can be male, female, or coed; there will also be categories for combined age 80+ and combined age 100+.  We will have gift cards from our friends at Falls Road Running http://www.baltimorerunning.com/   for our best in categories.

This race is free for members, and $10 for non-members. Registration is race-day only, starting at 5:45 p.m.
If this kind of race isn’t your thing, please consider volunteering! Email erin.surette@gmail.com if you’d like to help out.

Mark your calendars for the new date of Sunday, September 23 for the 39th running of the Executive Stampede 5K!
