Lazy Days of Summer

President's Message

We are in that season where everything is supposed to slow down: no school, beach vacations, drinks around the pool, visits to the ballpark.  Not so true for BRRC.  While the BRRC Board takes a break from meeting in July and August, the Club continues to be busy, with four competitive events scheduled this month and three more in August.  BRRC members are participating in a variety of events this summer, from fast, flat 5K's to 24-hour endurance runs.  It's hard to call our members lazy.

Plus, our Training Programs are starting up again.  The Middle Distance Training Group started on July 3rd a 16-week program to prepare members for Fall races, including our own NCR Half Marathon, to be held on September 28.  The next edition of our Couch to 5K Training Group starts in early August.  There is still time for members to join either group.  Click the links above for m
ore information.  Also, the My Training Group Newsletter for July can be found here.  As always, it is chock full of great articles and amazing results from our participants and coaches.  Thanks to Tom Nasuta for publishing it.

In late June, we began our track series with Summer Trac
k Meet #1, our last event at Goucher College until they have completed track repairs.  The Meet of Miles was held last week at the Hopkins/Loyola Track on 33rd Street.  For the balance of our track events, we will be utilizing the track at Perry Hall High School at 4601 Ebenezer Road in Baltimore.  Races to be held at Perry Hall include Summer Track Meet #2 on July 23rd, Two Person 10 Mile Relay on July 26th, and Summer Track Meet #3 on August 6th.  Please park in the main parking lot at the school and walk around to the track.

As you know from June's Monthly Update, the BRRC Family Picnic and Awards Presentation was held Sunday, June 22nd.  A number of our fellow members were honored with Performance Awards.  A full listing can be found here.  Plus, photos can be found on our Flickr page.  Be sure to congratulate our award winners when you see them at Club events.  They have earned our recognition.

Our BRRC Team Store will soon be open again.  It is slated for later this month and, as with our initial Team Store, we will keep the site open for three weeks.  We will be offering the same merchandise as before plus some cold weather gear.  We hope to open the store around the time of our next Monthly Update so we can let you know that is it up.  Watch your email and for updates on the  store.  I look forward to seeing more members wearing the Club logo.

As always, if you have a suggestion for the Club or an observation about Club activities, please let me know.  And, a special "Thank You" to our many dedicated volunteers.

Thank you for being a part of  BRRC.  I look forward to seeing you at the races!
