I am excited to serve as President of BRRC for the next year. I have been increasing my involvement with the Baltimore Road Runners Club for quite some time - I was even awarded Volunteer of the Year last year - and I'm looking forward to bringing my enthusiasm for running and community to our club. This is an excellent organization with a celebrated history. At the same time, we are a club embracing social media and offering opportunities for members new to running. There have been many dedicated runners, volunteers and leaders of our club. As our membership continues to grow, I'm inspired to see a great mix of new and longtime members that are active and contribute to BRRC.
One of the cool things about BRRC is the variety of races held throughout the year. Our 2015 Race Calendar
is loaded with races ranging from 1 mile to 50 kilometers! We always kick off the new year with our Father Time Frolic
, held at 9:00am
on New Year's Day
. This is a unique 5 mile race, where the winners are the top six runners who come closest to their predicted time. No watches allowed either! Registration starts at 8:15 and you can find more information here
. Judging by the calories you consumed over the holidays, you'll need the run. I'll see you there!
I'd like to acknowledge the work of our past president, Tim Satterfield
. Under his guidance, the club saw some big things happen. Training groups grew and flourished, communication within our club improved, we increased the amount of money given to students in our scholarships, a yearly membership system was adopted, our online presence expanded - we even started planning BRRC's triumphant return to the city for a new premium race
! Unfortunately, Tim has left us for the Rockies, but he has certainly made a lasting mark on BRRC. I had often said that I didn't know how he did it all, between work, family and volunteering. I hope to continue along in his footsteps.
With Tim's departure comes a new board with an influx of energy - Vice President Jim Archibald
, Treasurer (Past-President and Super-Volunteer) Christy St.Clair
, Secretary Deneen Keaton
, and Delegates Christian Creutzer
, Rob Santoni
, Joe Burdyck
, Jessica Krueger
, Mikhail Petrovskikh
, Bart Rein
, and Juda McGannon
. Together with our race directors and training coaches, we look forward to serving BRRC members this year with our various club races, group runs, and training programs.
The success of BRRC is dependent on its volunteers. I strongly encourage you to get involved and join us this year. There is no shortage of volunteer opportunities and help is always needed and appreciated. Without your help, we have no club! If you'd like to volunteer, please let me know. I will point you in the right direction.
If you have a suggestion for the club, a new idea, or a thought on how we can do something better, please feel free to let me know. You can even email me
if you want to give me a hard time on how out of shape and slow I've gotten. I'm committed to helping our club serve the needs and interests of our members. I'm looking forward to training with, and trying to run faster than you.
Thank you for being a part of BRRC. I'm excited to see you in the New Year.
