August update from BRRC
Greetings, BRRC!  Here is our August Newsletter!
After a busy summer of track, road, and trail races, we have a short break in our BRRC racing schedule before the great fall racing scene.  Many of us have taken advantage of the break to head out to one or more of the many destination racing opportunities out there.   Last weekend at The Annapolis 10 Mile Run we had a contingent of BRRCers toeing the line.  Most notably on the scene was BRRC Hall of Famer, past president, and perennial volunteer extraordinaire Nut Hall out there managing the race with his team.   Nut needed a ticker tuneup very recently, but his big heart didn’t hold him down for long, and all of your well-wishing certainly helped!   Here is one of many historical tidbits for you:  in 1982, Nut ran the A10 in 53:02…whoosh!  …..Good enough to win running away this year.   Good to see you, Nut!

Next Race: Sunday, September 23rd, the 39th Running of the Executive Stampede 5K!

The Stampede is our longest running race.  The entries and donations for this race are our major funding source for The Charlie Reynolds Scholarship Fund, and this year, we presented $6,000 in scholarships to area high school seniors, so thank you!
We will have both online and race day registration available. The race returns to the fast out and back Hunt Valley course, with easy parking, post race food, individual and age group awards, and of course those Stampede TEAM awards!  Entrants will receive a nice, soft, performance t-shirt, available in men’s, women’s and youth sizes.  All for $25!!  This is a great opportunity for family and community of all ages and paces, an approachable 5k journey on flat, friendly roads.
We have recently seen our expectant Stampede Race Director Jessica Krueger still living the running life at 8 months!  Filling in for Jessica on this year’s Stampede is our new Race Director Jim Waller, who will be at the helm with Nut Hall expertly managing the timing.  We encourage you to sign up online, join the BRRC team, guarantee your shirt size, and support our long standing scholarship program!  Volunteers will receive swag and thanks; contact Jim at or if you would like to volunteer or have questions.
The Fall is time for training!
There are more races and competition in the fall than any other season.  If you would like to pick up your game, or just join in, we have super training group opportunities right now!

The half marathon training group has a goal race at our net downhill, zippy, and historic NCR Half Marathon on Saturday, November 24th.   Buddy Weber and Ken Furman lead this popular program. More information is available here, or you can write to us at Expert training is free for members, and includes a discount and a guaranteed spot at the NCR half.  That is an awesome deal!

The Couch to 5k Training is back!  Our past president and awesome coach Robin Goodwin is leading the group.  You can find out more information here, or by writing Robin at . Free expert training for members, this is another great BRRC program!
Get Ready for Autumn running in Baltimore County with BRRC!
We have enjoyed many of our events this year in the city, but this time of year, we return to the county, a great place for autumn running!   And this fall the county has been especially good to us, which is worth noting here.

Tracks for speed training are at a premium this year due to the normal shortage of facilities and this year’s construction projects.  We thank Baltimore County and Dulaney High School for sharing their track for our mid distance training group.

Increased road use in the county had the course for our flagship NCR marathon in a difficult position, but we have found a perfect home back at the bucolic Oldfields School and on the NCR trail.  Thank you to Oldfields, Baltimore County, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources for making possible our Marathon and Half Marathon on November 24th.

Our annual 5k cross country race, the final GPS race of the year, will move to the Baltimore County Agricultural Center.  This course has crushed it, quickly becoming a destination for thousands of high school runners, hosting the Barnhart Invitational, the Baltimore County Championships, and the State Regional Championships.  And now, we have been accommodated to host our 5k Cross Country GPS run on Sunday, November 11th!

If you would like to scout out the Hunt Valley course, consider watching or volunteering at one of these big events. If you are fan of High School sports, and would enjoy the best seat in the house, consider volunteering at one of the events in your area.  We would like to make specific mention of the Dulaney High team, as we enjoy their facility at no cost to our club.  The best of the schedule includes these events at the Baltimore County Agricultural Center in Hunt Valley:

September 29th (9:30am-1pm) the Barnhart Invitational
October 20th (9:30am -5:00 pm) Baltimore County High School and Middle School Championship
November 2nd (2:30pm-5:00pm) State Regional Championship
Planning for 2019 Already?!
Yes, we are! In order to present a calendar and gain permits and permissions and have race directors in place, it is necessary to have most of our schedule in place well before the end of the prior calendar year.  Our Race Schedule Committee, led by Bailey St.Clair, meets on Monday, September 24th to plan our 2019 race schedule.   If you are one of our many super volunteers or avid runners and would like to give input for our schedule, please write Bailey at or  This is one of the best places in the world to find out more about volunteering as a race director or assistant race director!
