I don't know about you guys, but this morning was the first little taste of Fall that I got this year. I know a lot of you are already pushing your pumpkin-flavored everything on me, but it doesn't start to feel like Fall until Mama Nature says. I'm thankful that the drier air is here just in time for the Labor Day holiday weekend. What a horrible hot and humid summer we've had here in Baltimore. Fingers crossed hurricane Hermine hurries right on by us and we can get on with changing seasons sooner rather than later.
BRRC has a couple of Fall classics coming up. Later this month is the Executive Stampede 5k held in Hunt Valley. I can't stress enough how important this race is for our club. All of the proceeds from the 5k go directly to the Charlie Reynolds Memorial Scholarship. Each year we award scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Baltimore City and County. I encourage you to get a team together, or run it solo, and help contribute to this great cause. Awards will be given for overall runners and teams in various categories.
In addition to the Stampede, planning is well underway for the 27th running of the NCR Marathon and Relay presented by the Baltimore Road Runners Club. The race is held the Saturday after Thanksgiving in Sparks, MD and serves as a great first-time marathon for newbies. Last year's swag was such a big hit and I know that our race directors have something even better in store for this year. You can register here.
One of the ways we like to give back to the running community is by hosting a waterstop at the Baltimore Marathon. BRRC has done this since the race's inception! Our 2015 Volunteer of the Year, Miss Suzie Boltz, is looking for other volunteers to volunteer for this year's waterstop. Did you catch that? The refreshment station is located at mile 9.5 along the marathon course just past the Visionary Art Musuem at the intersection of Key Highway and Cross Street. You will be finished by 10:30 am and you'll receive a t-shirt! I've heard rumor about brunch in the past too, just sayin'. Contact Suzie if you'd like to support the marathon runners.
I'm going to close my message this month by thanking all of BRRC's wonderful volunteers and coaches. Just check out this great group from our Middle Distance Group at the track the other night! You all are what makes this club so great. Thanks for reading. See you at the Stampede.
