Johnny Lyons, back again in 2016. I'd like to personally thank all of you who graciously voted for me at the General Membership meeting. We ran a tight campaign, and I'm excited to serve our local running community for another year. There have been many dedicated to our club in the past and I'm glad that I can continue in their prestigious footsteps. As our membership continues to grow, so do our volunteers and other local leaders contributing to BRRC.
I feel like I was just dipping my toe in last year and getting a feel for things - now it's time for me to spread my wings and fly. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but it sounds good, doesn't it?
We have some new faces on the board this year in addition to some returning. My good friend, Christian Creutzer, will be serving us as Vice President - Christy St.Clair will be returning as Treasurer - and Deneen Keaton will also be returning as Secretary. Our Delegates are comprised of Ken Furman, former President Robin Goodwin, Jessica Krueger, Joe Musumeci, Henry Peck, Bart Rein and coaching extraordinaire Ginnie Welsh. I have no doubt that our team will serve BRRC well along with our race directors, training coaches and other wonderful volunteers.
I'm going to keep saying this until I'm blue in the face, but the success of BRRC is completely dependent on its volunteers! I implore you to get involved and join us in some fashion this year. There is no shortage of volunteer opportunities and help is always needed and appreciated. Without your help, we have no club! Email me if you're interested in helping out and I can certainly point you in the right direction.
We have some neat things coming up, including a new take on a race that BRRC premiered just last year. We had a race director vacancy open up for Cupid's Crush, a 10K held at Druid Hill Park in 2015. Under my leadership, along with some very good friends, we have transitioned the race from a 10K to a challenging 5 mile course around the entire park. We have flyers, a course map, tech shirts and memes on the way too. Registration is now open for the new February Classic. Heck, at this rate we'll be looking at temperatures in the 70s.
Also new this year, Charm City Run will be holding a Baltimore Road Runners Club Appreciation Night at their Timonium Store on January 20th. Any local running stores who are interested in offering incentives to BRRC members are a-okay in my book. Make sure you RSVP on Facebook. Here's the 'official' statement:
"Please join us for a BRRC member appreciation night at Charm City Run's Timonium Store on January 20th from 6-8PM. We will provide a fun evening of snacks and shopping to all BRRC members including 20% off accessories and apparel (with the exception of Garmin products), an additional 20% off anything on the sale rack and 50% off past model footwear. It's our way of saying thank you for your support as we look forward to a great 2016."
In addition to that, keep an eye out for the BRRC Team Store - slated to open on January 11th. If you're unfamiliar, the Team Store is your chance to get BRRC branded apparel at a great price. It's excellent for our club as we don't have to keep our own inventory, and it's great for local business too. This will be our third year partnering with XSell Promotions in this effort.
Don't forget about our first race in 2016. The Father Time Frolic is a terrific way to burn all of those damned cookies off that you've been eating. Seriously, don't you know what you're doing to yourself? 9am at Loch Raven Reservoir - check the website for more details.
That's about all I have for this 2015. If you have a suggestion for the club, a new idea, or a thought on how we can do something better, please feel free to email me. I'm committed to helping our club serve the needs and interests of all of our members. I'm looking forward to trying to run faster than you in the new year.
See you tomorrow morning at the Rock.
