2015 Year in Review

2015 was a very exciting year for Rudi International.  You are receiving this update because you were part of that excitement in some way.  We are so thankful for your continued support as we strive to make a difference in Goma, DR Congo.  Please read on to catch a few of the highlights from 2015!  We certainly can not contain all of God's goodness and blessing in one update. So, after reading these highlights, please feel free to check out our website, additional hyperlinks, and our Facebook page for a more in-depth look into our programs.

In 2015 we launched "Renew Hope", a sewing program, with our partners at Linked Through Love.

Renew Hope

One of our biggest highlights of 2015 was the launch of a sewing program thanks to our Canadian partners at Linked Through Love. This sewing program, "Renew Hope", is a project under Rudi's "Encourage Mothers" program.  The focus of the program is to teach women to sew so they can provide for their families.  This program focuses on assisting underprivileged women to become self-sufficient through a 10 month sewing program.

The goal is that by the end of the program, these women will be able to start small sewing businesses and earn additional income that will lead to a more sustainable financial situation. We need them to be able to provide for the needs of their families. These women are part of Rudi's Trauma Healing and Biblical counseling program. Most of them are the mothers of the children who are part of Rudi Education. Through this sewing project, we want their children to be able to have food, shelter, and their basic needs covered in order to perform well at school.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!  We are currently on Phase 4 of the launch of this project and need to raise $1,000 in the next few months to fully complete the launch of this program.  You can read more about this program and donate at our partner's site: http://www.linkedthroughlove.com/encourage-mothers---drc.html

Rudi Education

Another highlight of 2015 was sending about 75 children to school in Eastern DR Congo!  Our Education program continues to be a success due to our amazing partners and supporters. We were so excited when Love More Foundation decided to join with us to put love in action, helping us fund the majority of our scholarships.  More of our partners, Mwangaza International, Dot Products, and the community at Divine Moments also teamed up to make our 2015 "Love More!" education campaign a success.

The children receiving scholarships have enjoyed the many benefits of being in the Rudi program.  So far this school year these benefits have included participating in the Christmas project workshops & activities, a field trip to Goma Harbor, and receiving letters from their sponsor families.  You can read more about these events by clicking on the links above.

With sad hearts, we announce that this will be the last year that Mwangaza International will be joining us as a partner for education.  We are so thankful for the work they continue to do in the DR Congo and pray that God will continue to bless them. They have been with us from the very beginning. Due to this change, we will be looking for at least 5 new sponsors for the next school year.  Please contact Tessy Fuller by e-mailing her at adoptingdivinemoments@gmail.com if you would be interested in helping us fill this gap.

Thank you for loving more and sending a child/children to school! We are forever grateful for trusting us to be your hands and feet at the heart of Africa.

Meet & Greets - Fall 2015

Due to Rudi's co-founder and Executive Director, Arsène, being selected to attend the Mandela Washington Fellowship here in the United States, we were able to extend his stay for a few meet and greets in Missouri before he returned to the DR Congo.  We had two different events, one in northeast Missouri and one in St. Louis, MO.  We were very excited that it worked out for President of Rudi International and co-founder, Alain-Daniel, to join us in St. Louis. Alain-Daniel and Arsène were able to meet several Rudi International supporters and share their hearts behind the mission of Rudi International.  It was the first time the Rudi International US team had all met in person.  We were also excited to meet board member, Ashley Haden, from our partnership with Love More Foundation.  Due to Arsène's follow-up events with the fellowship, he was also able to meet with the founders of Love More, Ian and Katie McDaniel, in DR Congo upon his return. Thank you to everyone who supported and attended these events.  We love meeting our sponsors and supporters and are thankful that we also added many new faces to the Rudi team!

Rudi for Women and Girls Online

In April, Rudi International co-hosted the Goma Web Activism Summit (GWAS) to celebrate and mark the Girls in ICT day. The event was mainly a series of trainings on basic ICT skills, social media presence and blogging skills.

The event targeted young people, online activists from the DRC, Burundi, Rwanda and Kenya as they took part in a 3 days event in Goma, Eastern Congo.  About 20 participants in total, including about 8 young women took part.  Each one of them had the opportunity to create their own blogs and start expressing themselves on subjects they want. This is part of Rudi's effort to stop human trafficking and modern-day slavery before it even starts. They also had the opportunity to learn how they can benefit from the numerous opportunities offered to them by the Internet, such as introduction to social media sites.

Rudi International continues to participate in several Internet Governance meetings on a national, regional and international level because we are committed to supporting access to safe, secure, and affordable Internet.

“The DRC is a big country where connectivity is still a problem, so many people started going online mainly through mobile phones as access to cyber cafes requires money. There are more young men than women that’s why for over 3 years now, Rudi International is targeting women, helping them understand they can build career in ICT”, said Arsene Tungali, Co-founder and Executive Director of Rudi International who was one of the trainers.

Please contact us if you are a specialist in policy, IT and child protection to discuss about ways in which you can be part of our mission. Please also use the same channel if you would like to volunteer with us in any other capacity for multimedia, public relations, fundraising, social network advocacy, journalism, accounting, translation, or any other skills the Lord God has given you.

Thank you so much for joining us in 2015.  We hope you will continue to support Rudi International in 2016.  We are excited to see where God will lead us.
