November 10th is Transport Day at COP26 in Glasgow. There is one glaring omission from the agenda: cycling!  Transport Day is set to exclusively focus on electric cars.

Vélo Canada Bikes has partnered with organisations raising awareness of the importance of investing in cycling to reach our climate goals. Investing in cycling does not require waiting for new technologies, it doesn't require huge amounts of lead time. It is a technology that exists here, today. Investing in cycling will make a difference immediately!

Check out our shared letter and send the message that the world needs more cycling if we are to combat climate change!

Vélo Canada Bikes partners with Uber Canada to Increase Bike Safety
Bicycling is becoming more popular in cities around the world. Uber Canada has partnered with Vélo Canada Bikes and the League of American Bicyclists to raise awareness on how drivers can safely and responsibly share the road with people on bikes.

More and more people are choosing to travel by bike, so it’s important to know how to safely share the road with people on bikes. We say “people on bikes” to remind you that everyone riding near you is a person who deserves to get where they’re going safely.

As a technology company that facilitates multimodal travel, Uber is committed to the safety of all road users. Working together, Vélo Canada Bikes and Uber were able to leverage The League’s Bike-Friendly Driver (BFD) content and develop a text-based module, currently hosted on the Driver App’s Learning Center. Through this partnership, the content is available to drivers across Canada to help protect people cycling and keep the roads safe for all users as we begin to travel again.
This work builds on Uber’s existing bike safety efforts and in-app features including driver hour limitsbike lane alerts and seatbelt information encouraging all passengers to buckle up.
“Safety is at the heart of everything we do at Uber, and our partnership with Vélo Canada Bikes will help prevent injuries to people on bikes, and better inform drivers on how to keep everyone on the road safe,” said Matthew Price, GM of Uber Canada.
