Support Our Work

In addition to the funds for our renovation, we are also seeking operating funds in order to be able to take guests in the spring of 2014.  If you feel called to give, please donate here.

If your congregation or community group would be willing to partner with us in our renovation effort, please let us know.
How Time Has Flown!
Who would have thought we'd need to rake leaves in the back yard of Lydia's House when only a year ago this week we were receiving our 501 c3 letter of tax exemption? For all practical purposes, October marks the first birthday of an idea that is rapidly becoming a reality, yard maintenance and all! This birthday month has brought with it much good for Lydia's House-- a speaking event at Holy Trinity parish, a donation of an almost new dryer, tons of free paint, 10 lovely quilts, great volunteer groups, new friends, and an improved website. Most importantly, our renovation is far enough along that our opening to homeless guests in now on the horizon: April of 2014. In personal news, Annie is loving preschool and now garden camp and Bellarmine religious education, Sam is a wild man who's learned to climb,  Ben continues to manage the renovation and tries (typically with mixed success) to watch at least one football related event a week, Mary Ellen is enjoying her free mornings (thanks preschool) and the chance to be quiet, if only for a little bit and Meridith has had several fruitful visits with friends and family around the country, including most recently a bus trip to New York City. How do we manage to keep it all moving forward: one name, Hilary Wolkan. Thank you to our new intern.
Women For Women Dinner
Bellarmine parishioner Maria Krzeski is hosting a "Women for Women" dinner, an evening for women to share spirituality and fund raise to buy new mattresses for Lydia's House. The dinner will be held this Saturday October 26th, 6 pm, at Maria's home in North Avondale.  This is a great opportunity to build community with like-minded women while generously helping Lydia's House.   To RSVP and receive directions, please contact intern@stlydiashouse.org. Mothers, please bring your daughters!

Renovation Update
The roof is now complete and the drywall is being hung, which means that our house is really being put back together.  This month, we welcomed the Floral House intentional living community, as well as the College of Mount Saint Joseph, who generously helped in two of our work days.  We've also been blessed to have such outstanding volunteers who continually help in any way necessary--from providing lunches to cleaning out the garage and receiving furniture donations, as well as helping with construction. Pretty soon we will be ready to tile, paint, and make Lydia's House a home.

If you're interested in helping with the renovations, we are specifically looking for volunteers who are skilled in tiling. If you're willing to help, please email intern@stlydiashouse.org
