A sense of wellbeing

Manor Gardens Welfare Trust is delighted to announce that we will be launching our new Wellbeing Service from 1st July after successfully bidding to run the community outreach and Mental Health Champions services across Islington.
This builds on the work we have done over the last four years to reduce the stigma around mental health through our mental wellbeing champions. This work will continue and be augmented with a community outreach programme aimed at reaching groups and individuals who are not currently accessing the help they may need. We will also be working with communities to help them overcome cultural barriers to acknowledging the importance of mental wellbeing and how best to achieve it.
From 1st July you can contact the new Wellbeing Service on 020 7561 5291 or wellbeing@manorgardenscentre.org.

A healthy future

As part of our commitment to physical as well as mental wellbeing we recently ran a one-off cook and taste session at Grafton Primary School in Islington. The aim was to get parents and children learning and playing together. There were different learning themes over eight weeks for parents and children from Years 1 and 2 (that's five- to seven-year-olds) to learn together.
Nine children and six adults attended our session. They made healthy pizzas from scratch with home-made dough and a fruit salad.
Ayseguk, one of the parents, commented, 'The session was fun. My daughter enjoyed making the pizza with mummy. It was brilliant.' Helena was one of the teachers: 'It was good for me as a teacher to spend time with children and parents, observing the interaction. It was also very good to learn how easy it is to cook healthy, tasty food.'
Running for money
A half-marathon run by our own Ed Bartram (above) and Jordan and his team from Trullo Restaurant has resulted in a magnificent £2,500 towards befriending older people through our Friendship Network. Congratulations to the runners and our thanks as always to Jordan, who is not only one of our Befrienders but whose restaurant also supports the Friendship Network financially. Read more.

Summer Wellbeing Festival 9th July
We're now in the countdown to our Summer Wellbeing Festival on Saturday 9th July. We've already booked lots of stalls and entertainment which will take place along Manor Gardens. The event runs between 12 and 4pm and everyone is welcome. We will be closing our street and have a large selection of stalls, food outlets, music and afternoon tea. If you'd like to take part you can still book a stall or volunteer - all the forms are on our website.

Can you help us?
Welcome to Jessica and Jana
This month we're delighted to announce two new members of staff leading on our key projects. Jessica Lubin (above) has taken over the Stroke Service after Kath's retirement. Jana Gigl (below) is the new Project Co-ordinator of Bright Beginnings, our Lottery-funded project to help pregnant women from newly arrived communities.
