Merry Christmas

Isaiah 9:6   For unto us a child is born, unto us a son
is given, and the government shall be on his
shoulder; and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God,
Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.

We Continue to Support

Food Bank

The Village Council in Seine Bight has done an amazing job of caring for their village through the Food Bank.  At this time there is not enough funds to administer a full distribution before Christmas.

We, in conjunction with Chairman Jose, Ms. Maretha and Ms. Harriet, were able to come up with a plan to distribute food to those in most need of assistance.  Ms. Harriet was able to ensure that all demographics of the feeding program will be added to this distribution list.  We started the conversation at 5:00 pm on Monday 12/21 and by 8:00 pm a plan was in place.  This is such a need for some in the village, action was taken immediately.  The BMS will be the sole supporter of this Christmas distribution.  We give thanks to God for your support and our connections in Belize.
From Chairman Jose:
We were able to identify 50 households. Twenty-five of these households include the students of the feeding program. That is  equivalent to about 53 children. Another 25 household were selected based on people who have the greatest need.

These families will receive their distribution before Christmas.  On Christmas Eve, Chairman Jose, Ms. Maretha and Ms. Harriet delivered on the care packages to these families for the Belize Mission Society, thanks to your generosity.

Please join me in a prayer of Thanksgiving for our friends in Belize:  Chairman Jose, Ms. Maretha and Ms. Harriet who went above and beyond to care for their neighbors.

Ms. Harriet is such a blessing to the
Belize Mission Society.
It has been a hard year for all students and teachers.  Belize has been teaching from afar as we have in most of the United States.  In a normal year, the BMS would have been planning a second visit to Independence High School to check on the progress of our scholarship students.  The pandemic as stopped us from visiting in country since January 2020.

Our relationships with the administration at Independence High School has provided a way for us to see the progress of the students through an online software.  Right now, we need someone to follow up with the students in person.

Ms. Harriet has received a list of the students and their current grades.  She will be visiting the students for us.  This encouragement we hope will help them to maintain their required grade point average. The students may receive additional assistance from their instructors . Ms. Harriet will help remind them to turn in all required assignments.  We are so thankful to have such a dedicated advocate to make personal contacts with the children in the village as part of our team in Belize.

A Note from the Executive Director

Merry Christmas Friends of BMS,
I sit here in front of my computer and am in awe of the gifts that God has bestowed upon me during this Christmas Season.  I am able to have both of my sons with me for Christmas morning, my husband is approaching his retirement date and I have the honor to be able to represent all of you through the BMS to our friends in Seine Bight.  God is so gracious and good.
Over the past few months, I have been able to meet many of the team leaders from various mission teams that had planned to serve in Belize in 2020.  We discussed the obstacles laid before us and how we can navigate a safe return to our friends in Belize.  The BMS has a plan to send a small recon team to Belize in February 2021.  We will be making a decision in the coming weeks whether that date should be postponed.

Sometimes, being a “palm tree” is the hardest part of this job.

Once a recon team has had boots on the ground and returned, plans can then be made to schedule teams.  We must all have patience and trust in God for the right time to return.  One of my biggest concerns is to have the people of Belize fear our return, because we come from a part of the world that has many Covid cases.
Our Year-End financial campaign has been a blessing.  We are slowly nearing our goal as donations keep rolling in.  We still need your help to reach our goal.  Here's how you can help, it's simple:  click on the blue "donate" button above or mail a check to the BMS.

Thank you to everyone that has taken the time send your year-end gift to the BMS.  I have enjoyed the little notes included.  Thank you for welcoming me into my new role.
I will close with a Thank You to God for sending His Son to be born in the image of man for the purpose of shedding His blood to take away our sin!  What a gift!  Jesus is the best gift of Christmas.  Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
Merry Christmas from my family to yours!
His humble servant,

In Memory of Angel

In the early morning of December 5, 2020, our friend Angel Moriera left this earthly world to sit with Jesus.  He was a friend, brother, coworker and construction supervisor to the Belize Mission Society.  Angel will be greatly missed by so many in the village and by many of our team members.  We pray for his family and friends at this difficult time.
