Hello Faith's Lodge Friends!
You may be wondering where we’ve been. Well, we got a new Executive Director (that’s me), we moved (twice), hired new staff, got new beds and linens at the lodge, cleaned up acres and acres of storm debris on our grounds and have been planning the biggest party of the year. All the while, we’ve continued serving parents and families who are coping with the serious illness or loss of a child.

We’re proud of the work we do and I am especially proud of being a part of the Faith’s Lodge future. We have served almost 1,200 families since opening our doors and I am committed to the spirit of hope and healing that our founders, Mark and Susan Lacek, cultivated in memory of their daughter, Faith. I hope to meet each and every one of you soon.
P.S. I have an idea, let’s meet at Hope Rocks on September 13th!

New Faces and New Places
First, the people…
We welcomed four new members to our staff: Gail Minehart, Sam Bates, Anna Wood and Ali Baumgartner. Gail joined the Faith’s Lodge team in February as a Finance Manager and has valuable experience in non-profit finance and, completely unrelated, a love of the color orange. Sam is a business and marketing student at the University of Minnesota and joined Faith’s Lodge as a Development Assistant. She assists with grant research, event production and keeping the office organized and fully stocked (she’s a bit of a neat freak). Anna is an accounting student at the University of Minnesota Duluth and our Summer Lodge Assistant. She is Ev’s right-hand up there and serves as the night and weekend manager for the season and also mows the lawn, balances the finances and helps with everything else in between. Ali is our summer intern and attends (and plays soccer for) Minnesota State University – Marshall when she is not stuffing envelopes, filing or driving around town for us. We run her ragged but she tells us she wants to come back.
Then the Office…
In case you haven’t heard, we moved. We landed in a wonderful spot in cozy downtown Robbinsdale. We hosted an open house on Thursday, June 27th
and it was a great night on Broadway! Almost 75 people came by the new space to see what we did with the former podiatry office. Many thanks to our friends at Pig Ate My Pizza and Surly Brewing for the snacks and refreshments. We met new neighbors, old friends and are pleased to have a space that fits us. If you missed the open house, don’t be stranger. The pizza and beer are gone but there’s a welcoming smile anytime you’d like to stop by!
Happenings at the Lodge
We’ve spruced things up. We got all-new queen size beds to ensure our parents and families are getting the rest they need during their time at Faith’s Lodge. You’ll also see new towels, linens, comforters and duvets. Also, thanks to our friends at Unilever and their “Target Team”, we have all the grooming products our guests need. Thanks, Unilever!
It’s looking good out there. Hard working groups from Pediatric Home Service, Boulay and US Bank came out and got really dirty this Spring. We cleaned up 25 acres of land that was left battered by the 2011 storm, and volunteers planted grass and seedlings. The grounds were cared for, the wood split and the flowers planted. We are lucky to have such wonderful volunteers! Now, if we could just figure out how to stop the bear and her cub from tipping over the dumpster…

A Peek at Grace’s Garden
Faith’s Lodge rocked the Fine Line Music Café in March with a musical performance from The Ben Johnson Band who wowed the crowd and had everyone on the dance floor. Thank you very much to all who attended. A special thank you goes to Pediatric Home Service for their support of the event and the wonderful volunteers. Stay tuned for Hope Thrives 2014!
Loss to Violence Weekend
During an unseasonal April snowstorm, Faith’s Lodge opened up its doors to families who have lost children to violence. This was a new programming effort for the organization but one that was greatly needed. The families traveled through the April storm and all made it safely to Faith’s Lodge. They arrived not knowing what to expect and left with deep connections, new memories and hope to carry them through the difficult times. A huge thank you goes out to the following people:
Cooks for Kids at Ronald McDonald House Charities
Georgia Ellyse and KMOJ for their promotional support
VJ Smith and the Minneapolis Men Against Destruction-Defending Against Drugs and Social-Disorder (MAD/DADS) organization for rallying behind us
Robin Guetseng, an art therapist who donated her time to share the beauty of art therapy
Victrisa “Kim” Green, a wonderful cook who kept hearts and stomachs full all week
Karolyn Geyen, a fearless driver who made sure guests got up to the lodge safely through the snowstorm
Faith’s Lodge volunteers and board members had the opportunity to serve dinner at Ronald McDonald House Charities in Minneapolis on April 16th. The team was able to cook up a tasty chili meal while interacting with many of the families who’ve been served at Faith’s Lodge. We love our partnership and are proud to be part of the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
On a sunny June afternoon at the Chaska Town Course, a full field of golfers and supporters helped raise funds for Faith’s Lodge. "Swing for Sophia" is named for the daughter of Dan and Alli Lenmark, past guests and fans of Faith’s Lodge. Friends and family celebrated the memory of Sophia on a gorgeous day that included a pink balloon release, an amazing silent auction, a program under the big tent and dancing the night away in the clubhouse. Thank you to all of the golfers, sponsors and volunteers who helped make the day a success. An extra shout-out to our friends at MARS Candy for being the event sponsor and providing an all-day sugar high!
