WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH AUTO INSURANCE?

The Auto Landscape is changing and in many surprising ways.  What can we expect moving forward?

PERCEPTION:  Technology is making cars safer, so why isn't my auto insurance premium going down?

TRUTH:  There are actually more auto accidents occurring, resulting in more claims, which ultimately means rising auto insurance premiums.  This is further compounded in that vehicle technology and materials are becoming more expensive to repair and replace and medical costs are growing exponentially.

DID YOU KNOW...
  • Since 2015, there has been a 9% increase in auto deaths.
  • Since 2009, there has been a 26% increase in auto injuries.
  • In 2015, there were 3.148 trillion miles driven which is a 3.5% increase over 2014 -- the largest annual increase in 25 years.
  • In 2015, there were 35,200 auto fatalities.
  • Since 2013, there has been a 32% increase in medical claims.
  • 2015 had the largest annual increase of auto deaths/injuries in 50 years.
  • It is estimated that 1 in 4 car crashes involve cell phone use.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
  • Lower gas prices have increased traffic congestion and miles driven
  • Increased distracted driving (texting, technologies, etc.)
  • More new cars sold with more expensive technology to repair (sensors, cameras, etc.)
  • Demographics (more older/younger drivers)
  • Unusual weather
  • Increased poorly maintained roads
  • Drug use (alcohol, marijuana, opioids, etc.)
  • Increased speeding
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT?

Overall, we expect to see a rise in auto insurance rates with most, if not all, carriers across the nation as these trends continue.  Many carriers have already implemented rate changes.  For those who have not, we expect rate increases in the coming months and into 2017.  We recommend planning your personal budgets accordingly to account for these probable financial impacts.

Dan and Treva were at the Dayton Dragons game on August 17th to promote organ and tissue donation awareness.  More than 123,000 people are currently waiting for life saving transplants in the United States.  You can learn more at Life Connection of Ohio's website.  Dan and Treva encourage you to understand the facts and see if being a donor is right for you.

"Robert K. Jones Insurance has been a part of my life for almost 25 years.  Kevin and his team have taken care of all my insurance needs from our first house and car as a young married couple, through early parenthood and life insurance, car accidents and house issues, through a divorce and new home needs, to now insuring three teenage boy drivers who have their own cars.  Kevin and his team are always easily available, quick to answer any questions and most importantly, pleasant to work with.  I am totally confident I have the best insurance available, from the best team possible.  I look forward to working with them for years to come; it’s such a relief to be able to trust Kevin and not worry about this area of my life.  Thank you all!!"
