Public Relations Specialist – Hunton & Williams LLP

 
Hunton & Williams LLP, a global law firm, is actively recruiting a Public Relations Specialist. This position oversees submission of firm global responses to legal directories and legal peer-group surveys about rankings published by major legal trades, and other directories including Chambers, Legal 500, Benchmark Litigation, among others. Assists with internal and external marketing initiatives to enhance firm visibility and to increase the external rankings and recognition for the firm and its lawyers. Supports general PR/media initiatives as directed. This Firm position can be located in any of our East Coast offices.
 
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, English or public relations field. Minimum of three years' experience in a professional services firm, working in the area of communications/marketing, focusing on business development, client relations and marketing. Prior work with AmLaw 100 firm and directory submission process a plus. Knowledge of personal computers and computer network systems as well as Internet and multimedia functions. Director of Business Development – Goodwin (New York, Boston, or DC)

 
The Business Development Director provides global business development and marketing support to the Financial Industry group, one of the firm’s high-growth practices, and related areas. Reporting directly to the managing director of business development, this position requires an individual who is a self-starter, possesses a client focused mentality and is highly service oriented. Travel between offices and to key events is expected and anticipated to be 20-25% of one’s time.
 
Responsibilities include helping shape the strategic positioning for the Financial Industry and its related practices within the context of the Goodwin brand; developing and supporting an integrated business development plan for the practices and individual partners; supporting client relationship building initiatives; facilitating cross-selling opportunities with other practice groups; lead generation; and identifying and encouraging effective “thought leadership” opportunities for the attorneys.
Responsibilities
 
The Business Development Director will be expected to:
  • Initiate, encourage and support client relationship building activities and other initiatives that will help the firm to institutionalize its client base, target new clients and grow top line revenue.
    • Write business development plans for primary and sub-practices.
    • Work with the partners in developing and implementing personal business development plans and network expanding activities.
    • Work closely with the director of client development to support lead generation opportunities.
    • Track and provide monthly updates detailing business development activity and successes (win/loss ratios, referrals, return on networking investments, upcoming activities).
    • Includes primary responsibility for the quality of all targeted mailing lists.
  • Provide input to, and support, firm wide efforts around key initiatives, working closely with the managing director of business development and other senior business development leaders.
  • Oversee research and related competitive intelligence activity for key clients and prospects, working closely with the firm’s manager of market and competitive intelligence. Monitor the business development strategies and related activity of key competitors and integrate findings in to ongoing marketing and business development plans.
  • Coordinate and develop responses to RFPs/RFIs and oversee content for practice pitches and proposals; add value to proposals through partner coaching, team development and targeted content; collaborate with our pricing and project management team in developing alternative fee arrangement proposals and other value adds.
  • Assist in the full and complete integration of lateral attorneys and partners.
  • Identify and prioritize key organizations and events in which the practice/partners will participate.
    • Working with our marketing operations manager, develop and manage budget for practice-related marketing memberships, sponsorships and hosted events.
    • Oversee practice events, including planning, logistics, attendee targeting and ROI tracking and reporting. In some cases, attending events to help facilitate introductions and connections may be required.
    • Maintain relationships with key industry and event organizations.
  • Ensure practice descriptions, data sheets, web content and other marketing materials are compelling and up-to-date.
  • Identify appropriate matter tracking activities and ensure appropriate details are captured in the firm’s experience management system for easy output to proposal materials.
  • Identify and manage review and submission of data for all relevant league tables and deal listings for the Financial Industry and related practices, as well as review and analysis of published results for practice leaders. Develop relevant client/prospect communications based on results and work with the communications team to identify league table rankings that merit external communications support.
  • Work with communications team to create targeted, strategic submissions for practice-related and attorney rankings, surveys and awards, including Chambers, Legal 500, Am Law rankings, Best Lawyers and other industry-specific/geographic/attorney demographic awards programs.
  • Work with the communications team to develop and implement public relations strategies that further the group’s goal for positive media exposure and visibility.
  • Supervise and mentor a support team of one or more junior staff.
The successful candidate will have:
  • At least 9 – 11 years of experience in a business development or marketing role, ideally in an AmLaw 100 firm or large professional services firm. At least 4 years of management experience. Previous focus on the financial industry is strongly preferred.
  • Strong writing, communication and editorial skills, with particular attention to detail.
  • Strong project management and process implementation skills.
  • Flexibility, willingness and ability to work with a wide variety of people and projects in a collective and collaborative manner.
  • Ability to effect change and motivate a diverse group of partners.

Reporting to the Director of Business Development, this position requires an individual who is a self-starter, possesses a client focused mentality and is highly service-oriented.
 
Responsibilities include helping to shape the strategic positioning for the Technology and Life Sciences practices within the context of the Goodwin brand; supporting client relationship-building and business development initiatives, and working with our Marketing and Communications teams to develop messaging and strategies for increasing brand visibility in our key markets.
 
The Marketing & Business Development Manager will work closely with the Director of Business Development to:
  • Initiate and support client relationship building activities and other activities that will help the firm to institutionalize its client base and grow top line revenue.
    • With the Director, work with partners to develop and implement business development plans and network expanding activities.
    • Track and provide monthly updates detailing business development activities and successes (win/loss ratios, referrals, return on networking investments, upcoming activities).
  • Oversee research and related competitive intelligence activities for key clients and prospects, working closely with our Marketing and Client Intelligence team to monitor the business development strategies and related activities of key competitors.

Business Development/Marketing Specialist – Global Law Firm (New York)


Business Development/Marketing Specialist in NY office of Global law firm.

  • Work directly with the partners in Capital Markets group (across various offices worldwide) to develop and execute clear strategies and business plans.
  • Focus on Proposals and Pitches and Client development.
  • Serve as lead project manager for RFPs and pitches.
  • Spearhead briefing discussions to propose and/or understand the opportunity.
  • Write new business proposals, conduct matters research and produce targeted, tailored responses to RFIs/RFPs.
  • Develop and refine processes and procedures relating to the practices’ business development “infrastructure” (e.g., written collateral; database/matter lists; contact lists; opportunity tracking; etc.). Ensure that all marketing collateral, communications, deal lists are consistent.
  • Track and analyze practice initiatives, determine if there is sufficient ROI to repeat those initiatives.
  • Lead practice areas’ submission of rankings, surveys, league tables and other ratings information.

Education and/or Experience
BA and 4+ years of experience in strategic planning, business development, marketing (experience in the law/professional services A+), CRM, S&P CapitalIQ, finance knowledge A+, knowledge league tables A+
