Goals for 2020
Although we're not big into resolutions in the Lausanne Learning office - we love our carbs and Diet Cokes and not running too much - we do have some goals for 2020, and they are inspired by our community!

Proposals for Dare to Design Due Soon!
We have only a few weeks left for proposals for Dare to Design (March 12-13, 2020) at Trinity Preparatory School and Park Maitland School in Orlando, FL!

Dare to Design is a PK-12 conference - a brand new one! - at TWO schools, showing how design thinking can lead to creative solutions, even when it comes to conference planning! Teachers who use design thinking are better equipped and empowered to engage their students, and we're seeking your ideas, tips, and resources for creating an environment where everyone dares to design! So far we have workshops on graphic design, technology, breakouts, teaching technology and design thinking to early childhood students, and many more, but we still have a little space, and would love to have you as a presenter!

Proposals are due January 15, 2020 - EXTENDED FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

What We're Reading
How to be an Antiracist
by Ibram X. Kendi

It's no longer enough to be not racist - we have to be models for our students, our families, and our communities by be antiracists. Racism is not the result simply of bad people, but of bad structures, and, as one reviewer writes, Kendi's book argues that, "We must actively choose to be "antiracist," working to undo racism and its component polices in order to build an equitable society." May we all strive to work hard for each other in 2020!

They Called Us Enemy
by George Takei

This graphic memoir recounts George Takei's childhood experience of imprisonment in an American concentration camp as a child - and is beautiful, heartbreaking, and inspiring. A great resource for students and teachers, They Called Us Enemy asks important questions like "What Does it Mean to be an American?" and, more importantly, "Who Gets to Decide?"

A Note from the Director
Happy New Year!

2019 was a year of amazing opportunities and, while there were challenges, it was a great year for Lausanne Learning! Personally, I can't thank our community enough for all the love and support I've received during my transition to the Director role and during my recent absence due to my father's passing. The outpouring of caring I've received has further cemented my belief that I work with the best educators - and people - out there!

In 2020, we're looking ahead to our future, making plans for conferences over the next few years and planning new ways to serve our community. We've recently added a newsletter archive to our website, and have an exciting new resource coming your way this Friday! We're also refocusing on our goals and mission - if it doesn't help empower educators, we're not doing it! :)

Thank you for an amazing year. When I started 2019, I couldn't imagine this is where we'd be, and I know as we enter a new decade, we're going to grow and connect in ways I can't imagine now. I can't wait to see where we go - together!

Thank you for all you do!
