Week #9 - Sunday, August 7, 2016
This week...all of your Nutley Farmers Market favorites and a bushel of special events to kick off National Farmers Market Week!
Our Aug 7 Peach Party features a Perfect Peach Pie Amateur Baking Contest, raffle, tastings, recipes, and more to celebrate NJ’s own locally grown peaches. Throughout the month, Jarets Stuffed Cupcakes, Gelotti of Montclair, Luna Wood Fire Tavern, and other local eateries will keep the party going with special peach-themed offerings at their establishments.
Bakers, deliver your pies or cobblers and printed recipes to the Market between 8am and 10am. Official judging plus taste-along by the crowd will begin at 11am. The winner will go on to compete for a $300 grand prize sponsored by Jersey Peaches not to mention some peachy bragging rights. Learn more.
Join students from Nutley High School for Market Walk & Talk, a 3-mile walk through our scenic parks during which the students will answer your questions about academic, extracurricular, and social life in high school. Meet at the Greenutley table at 8:15am; the walk begins at 8:30am. Great for rising freshmen or anyone interested in the inside scoop!
Also this week: Yoga with Angela M. Guerriero, PhD from Tempo! Music Therapy. Meet at 9:30am on the basketball court in Yanticaw Park behind Nutley HS with a yoga mat or towel.
Looking ahead...Aug 14 is our Biggest Tomato and Zucchini Contest! What's in your Nutley garden?! And even if your produce isn't contest-ready, donate it at the Aug 14 Market to benefit the Nutley Family Service Bureau (NFSB) Food Pantry. In fact, our focus on Aug 14 is food security and access to healthy food for all. NFSB Executive Director Eileen Painter will lead our Market Walk & Talk, and the NFSB will be at the Market to answer questions about their services and accept donations of staples as well as fresh produce. From 10am to 2pm, qualifying seniors can get their Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition vouchers.
See you at the Market!
