I hope you’re well! I’ve lost my voice...thank goodness for laptops, eh? I’m back home safe from the Cara tour, which was super duper fun, as usual :) And I’m looking forward to Christmas, despite all the hard stuff going on in the world - I hope you are, too.
If you’d like to hear my thoughts from the Cara tour (and life in general) in more detail, please check out my tour blog here - please note, the last entry is the one at the top, so you need to start by scrolling down the page to the beginning of the tour, the first post is dated 20th October 2015 :)
CARA Album Launch Scottish Tour!
Though the official launch is 15th January 2016, the new Cara album, Yet We Sing, is available now to listen to and purchase from the Cara website - www.cara-music.com - and there’s a short film celebrating the album release here, too.
I hope that this might tempt you to come and hear us live in January, on our first ever Scottish tour!
I’d really like Cara to tour more in the UK, so anything you can do to spread the word to friends, family and colleagues about these gigs would be most appreciated - or if you’re looking for an easy Christmas present for a music lover, simply click on the links below to buy tickets for any of the shows. I would love to see you, and all your friends, there! Thanks, in anticipation, for your support.
Wednesday 27th January - Celtic Connections, Glasgow
Thursday 28th January - Eden Court, Inverness
Friday 29th January - Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline
Saturday 30th January - Queens Hall, Edinburgh
BIG Project News
Fiona Lander, a composer based in the north of England, has written an absolutely beautiful new “Winter Carol”, which we’ve been learning over the past few weeks at The BIG Project Youth Choir, and which you can listen to, and purchase, here - it’s being released as a charity single to raise money for the Percy Hedley Foundation.
Fiona has invited us to join a massed choir in Newcastle Train Station on 16th Dec at 11.30 am for a special performance of the song, which we’re very excited about! But for those of you in Scotland, we’ll also be performing the song (amongst other carols) at Sainsbury’s Murrayfield, Edinburgh on Saturday 19th December between 10 am and 12 noon. It’s a delight to sing!
Meanwhile, songwriting workshops with young people from Broomhouse continue at The BIG Project for the final of four song commissions as part of our current YMI funded “BIG Songs” project - this last one for Stephen Deazley’s Love Music Community Choir, who have given us a fantastic brief: to write a song inspired by the former commander of the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield, and his “Astronaut’s Guide To Optimism”. Once we’ve written it, The BIG Project Youth Choir will perform the song with Love Music in the Usher Hall on 7th March 2016 - so watch this space!
"The Whole Rainbow" Video
Here’s a wee video for you (from a gig earlier in the year with Emily Smith and Mairi Campbell), of a song I wrote for my neice, Orla, before she was born, at the point where we only knew she was a human, but not whether she would be a boy or a girl...
Wishing you a peaceful, and joyful, festive season. Take care, and thank you for your continued support, I really appreciate it.
Hopefully I’ll see you in the New Year! May 2016 bring you all good things,
