Redeem the Time

Rick Dorman, Lead Pastor

Scripture teaches us to “redeem the time, for the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16).  To redeem the time is to multiply it.  If you spend time in prayer, it redeems the time; you feel like you have more of it.  I know that doesn’t make sense.  It’s like the principle of giving, if you give to others, then you have more.  You’re probably asking, “How is that possible? If you give it away, don’t you have less?”  But that’s not the way the spiritual principle works.  Jesus taught us,

“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom.  For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).

This happens by starting the day with your mind on the Lord.  In the big picture, intercessory prayer is a tool that can provide more fullness of time, and particularly more opportunity to touch the lives of others, as well as multiply and advance the Kingdom of God.

Because people are busy, this is all the more important.  People in our society are lonelier and more disconnected than they’ve ever been.  Even though we’ve got devices in our left and right hands and we can touch the world with social media, we’re becoming lonelier than ever.  People need an intercessory friend.

If you want to give, invest some time in interceding for, and lifting up, someone else in prayer.  Just see how God redeems the time for you.  Your day feels longer.  Your week feels like you’ve accomplished more.  Time given is like seed sown.  You’ll have a harvest come back to you in the form of more time.
The way God’s kingdom works is often opposite of our own ideas.  It’s upside-down. The Scriptures speak of us kneeling in prayer and even laying prostrate before God. From a position the world would call weakness, we enter a place of great power.

As we enter the season of giving, remember the 10 benefits of generous giving.  First Fruits Giving is God’s way.
  • Giving always results in receiving. Luke 6:38
  • Giving unleashes power in your life. You will be prosperous. Proverbs 18:16
