Stem Cell Therapy – an Innovative Approach to Back Pain

When 80% of the population suffers from back pain at some point in their lives, it is time to start thinking of ways to relieve that pain. While there are ways to ease it, there haven't been many ways to cure it. Bulging disc? Tear in the disc? This new technology could relieve the symptoms associated with these injuries. Stem cell therapy is an innovative approach way that First State Spine is looking to help people that suffer from chronic back pain in a minimally invasive procedure. Dr. Bruce Rudin is dedicated to bringing this technology to Delaware.

You may be asking, what are stem cells? They are specialized cells that grow naturally in our body and can differentiate into bone, cartilage, or fat cells. The benefits of stem cell therapy come with the idea that stem cells are regenerative and can potentially heal or repair different kinds of tissues. The goal is to inject the stem cell bone marrow back into the patient's body to restore the muscle tissue leading to a decrease in pain and an increase in quality of life! Although stem cell research is still very much in its experimental stage; in a small study, no patients seem to have worsening pain after the procedure. In fact, there are many success stories.
Lower back pain can be career-ending for someone like professional golfer, Jack Nicklaus. After going through many surgeries and steroid injections to ease the pain that comes after years of swinging a golf club, Nicklaus decided to have an adipose-derived stem cell procedure. This procedure would prove to be very beneficial for Nicklaus, who stated in a recent CNN interview, “The pain I used to feel while actively playing golf had subsided after a few months.”
Stem cell research is ongoing, but with only minor risks that come with a non-invasive procedure. In many cases, patients respond to just one treatment.

It's time to get a handle on your spine health and live free of pain! However, always check with your physician to see if these tips are safe to follow based on your health history.
