First State Spine
October is Spinal Health Month, and First State Spine would like to take this opportunity to educate our patients on the importance of a healthy spine. Join us this month, and especially on October 16, World Spine Day, as we raise awareness of spinal health.
All this month we want to challenge you to “Get Spine Active”.  Movement is medicine and staying active helps to maintain flexibility and prevent back pain. Did you know your spine has over 60 joints that need to function properly so the spine can protect your spinal cord and nerves?
As we age, we are subjected to aches and pains from time to time. It is important to keep moving even as we age. Daily exercise and staying active to keep your spine performing properly may help to decrease the pain.
This October, try incorporating some of these simple steps to get spine active:
Physical Activity
  • Take the stairs – skip the elevator!
  • Park further– walk more!
  • Stretch – find time to stretch throughout your day
Healthy Working Conditions
  • Less screen time – take regular breaks at work
  • Stand up or pace while you are on the phone
  • Heavy lifting – always bend your legs and keep your back straight
The Importance of Posture
It's time to get a handle on your spine health and live free of pain! However, always check with your physician to see if these tips are safe to follow based on your health history.

If you have back pain or back problems, make an appointment with one of First State Spine's specialists.

I had major lower back damage that had become crippling and required extensive surgery. Dr. Zaslavsky did brilliant work.
The staff had me walking 20 hours after the surgery and my recovery was about half the expected time. A year later I have ~ 99% of my mobility back and have remained pain-free! – David
