Our annual General Meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 9th at 7:30pm at the museum. Local author Robin Chapman will be our guest speaker for the evening. She will speak on her latest book California Apricots: The Lost Orchards of Silicon Valley.
Robin was born and raised in Los Altos and has had a varied and interesting career as a television journalist. Robin has extensive knowledge of the history of apricots. Take a step into the past, as she recounts numerous stories on the orchard families and their history.
Come enjoy this engaging speaker and learn about the wonderful fruit that once was grown in abundance in our valley. Following Robin’s presentation, you will have an opportunity to purchase her book which she will personally autograph. The Museum Gift Shop will be selling copies of the book.
Admission and refreshments are FREE!
Sunnyvale Technology Timeline Contest Reception
The Sunnyvale Heritage Museum held a contest for kids and teens to interpret our Technology Timeline for a future digital book. Artists from age 5-15 were encouraged to illustrate stories and questions to trigger new innovations.
We are holding a special reception to showcase the artwork and award prizes on Sunday, June 8th from 1-4pm at the museum. Come join us for a Technology Timeline iBook contest reception. You will see the winners announced, view an exhibit of amazing illustrations and have a chance to win prizes in fun technology trivia games.
Richard Chang, former VP of DreamWorks, will speak on “Technology in Art, Hollywood in Sunnyvale” at 1:30pm.
The museum is always expanding its exhibits and attempting to preserve parts of Sunnyvale history.
The iconic "Blue Cube" building has now been fully razed. However, the museum strives to preserve local history. Pictured is a piece of concrete that was part of the satellite test facility Onizuka Air Force Base. The artifact is now on display at the museum. Visit us during normal museum hours to see the item on display.
Art & Wine Festival
June 8 and 9
The Sunnyvale Art and Wine Festival is this weekend, and museum volunteers will be there. The event takes place all weekend, but on Saturday (June 7) museum volunteers will be hosting one of the beverage booths.
The Sunnyvale Art & Wine Festival is always a fun event that kicks off Summer in the Bay Area.
If you would like to help us man our booth (only a 2 hour shift), just contact the museum. It’s a great chance to visit with lots of people and spread the word about our museum and our many community activities.
We hope to see you there!
Consider the Gift of a
Commemorative Brick or Tile
Have you noticed the commemorative bricks (and tiles on the wall) in front of the museum?
Commemorative bricks or tiles are a special way to honor a graduate in your family or celebrate a very important date or event in someone’s life. We are now taking orders for our next installation of commemorative bricks. Please note that this year's deadline for purchasing a brick or tile is July 15 for installation at the museum site in August.
What better way to honor someone or an event than to have a brick or tile set in the front entryway of the museum for all to enjoy and remember forever! Call or stop by the Museum Gift Shop for a Brick Order Form, so you can make a mark for history.
Spring Garage Sale
Thanks to everyone who attended our 2014 Spring Garage Sale—the day was a great success. Every penny raised goes towards the daily operation of our museum.
Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped make this special event possible. If you missed the event, keep watching for the announcement of our Fall Garage Sale scheduled for sometime in October.
