District Beautification Initiatives
Kirkland Bus Yard Scrim Unveiled
The SFMTA, working in partnership with the Fisherman's Wharf Community Benefit District, recently added banners along the fence around the MTA's Kirkland Bus Yard to beautify the area. The MTA's Erica Kato explains, "Muni’s Kirkland bus division has a storied history with the Fisherman’s Wharf district. Located near Pier 39, Kirkland is one of San Francisco’s smallest and oldest bus yards — but also one of the most visible."
This project was funded by the FWCBD as a way to beautify the area around the bus yard with an attractive design that educates visitors and the community about Muni’s past and its place in Fisherman's Wharf. To see the images in order, follow the timeline along the block of Powell Street from Beach to North Point Street. Photos and a video of the new banners are posted on the SFMTA's Moving blog here,
and for additional photos, please visit the SFMTA Photo Archive.
Reminder: Underground Fuel Tank Replacement at the Muni Kirkland Bus Yard
The Project is Anticipated to Start in March 2017
As we reported last month, to modernize the Muni system, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which manages Muni, will replace two underground fuel tanks in the Kirkland Yard with new fuel storage tanks. The project, anticipated to start in March 2017, will last for approximately nine months.
Temporary service adjustments and short-term construction impacts include:
-Partial bus substitution for the F and E lines
-Relocation of the F stop at Beach and Stockton Streets
-Street parking removal
-Traffic lane closures
-Noise and dust during daytime work
-Possible odors from excavation of contaminated soil

The Wharf By the Numbers
People Counting Devices Track Wharf Footfall
Each month we share our pedestrian counts for the previous month and previous year. Our January 2017 footfall count shows a 13% decrease over January 2016.
Stay tuned for more annual comparisons. The FWCBD is using footfall data to help provide valuable information to the City to help advocate for more services for local property owners, merchants and visitors.
