Share the Warmth Holiday Coat Drive Recap

As part of this year's MerryTime festivities, we partnered with Project Homeless and Madame Tussauds to give the gift of warmth to the homeless population of San Francisco. Through a generous donation from Bye Bye San Francisco, and collections at The California Welcome Center at PIER 39, Hotel Zephyr, Madame Tussauds and The Spice & Tea Exchange we collected much needed warm clothing for the homeless.

Fisherman's Wharf Retail Strategy Document

The FWCBD has hired San Francisco based consulting firms, Seifel Consulting Inc. and lowercase productions, to create a comprehensive Retail Strategy Document. The consultants will be working with the Retail Strategy Task Force, a group of of business and property owners from the district, along with FWCBD staff and OEWD staff. Both Seifel Consulting and lowercase productions have worked with a broad range of non-profit, public, and private clients to achieve sustainable and vibrant urban places throughout the city.

The final Retail Strategy Document will be released by the end of 2017, and will be given to local developers, property owners, real estate brokers and retail recruiters as a reference document to attract businesses and increase interest and investment in the neighborhood. The document will also provide guidelines to finesse the current streetscape aesthetic with regards to storefront design, branding, and signage. The completed Retail Strategy Document will meet the needs of the business community, tourists, and local residents while incorporating our existing business landscape into the design and planning.

Partial funding for this project is made possible by a $25,000 grant from the Office of Economic and Workforce Development. Executing a project of this scope was one goals identified by the FWCBD's Board of Directors at their 3-year strategic planning meeting in the fall of 2015.

Underground Fuel Tank Replacement at the Muni Kirkland Bus Yard

The Project is Anticipated to Start in March 2017
To modernize the Muni system, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which manages Muni, will replace two underground fuel tanks in the Kirkland Yard with new fuel storage tanks. The project, anticipated to start in March 2017, will last for approximately nine months. It will bring the tanks up to code, improve safety and make fueling faster and more efficient. The work, located at northeast side of Kirkland Yard next to Beach and Stockton streets, will involve excavation and removal of the old tanks, and installation of two new tanks. The SFMTA will work with the contactor to minimize the inconveniences for Muni customers, local merchants and nearby residents.

Temporary service adjustments and short-term construction impacts include:
-Partial bus substitution for the F and E lines
-Relocation of the F stop at Beach and Stockton Streets
-Street parking removal
-Traffic lane closures
-Sidewalk closures
-Noise and dust during daytime work
-Possible odors from excavation of contaminated soil

The work will take place Monday through Friday during daytime hours. The SFMTA will continuously update the community on traffic and service adjustments with fliers, signage, social media postings and ambassador support as construction proceeds.

For concerns or assistance, please contact: Tess Kavanagh, Project Manager, at 415.701.4212, via email at tess.kavanagh@sfmta.com or Jay Lu, Public Relations Officer, at 415.701.4387, via email at jay.lu@sfmta.com.

Each month we share our pedestrian counts for the previous month and previous year. Our December 2016 footfall count is effectively the exact same as the December 2015 count. For December 2016 we are reporting a mere 0.8% increase.
