To pay online, visit DONATIONS.

Checks are also welcome and may be made payable to the LHWHSPA with a note “Post Prom” in the memo section. Please mail to the high school or drop off at the front office addressed ATTN: Post Prom Cmte.

We also need many volunteers to keep our kids safe the night of the party.   Volunteer information can found in upcoming newsletters and on the Post Prom web page.  If you cannot volunteer to help please consider a donation to Post Prom.  Once again...any amount is greatly appreciated.

To volunteer, visit VOLUNTEERS.

Mardi Gras Facts

Did you know...

1. Between 2017 and 2018, due to excessive flooding and clogged storm drains, the city of New Orleans removed more than 93,000 pounds of Mardi Gras beads from a five-block stretch of the city's drains. In total, the Department of Public Works collected more than 45 million tons of beads.

2. Mardi Gras Day is the last day of Carnival season.

3. Carnivals include balls, parties and parades with floats and costumed dancers.

4. The colors of Mardi Gras are purple (justice), gold (power) and green (faith).

5. Mardi Gras is a state holiday in Alabama, Florida and eight parishes in Louisiana.

6. 1837 marked the first Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans.

7. It’s not just a tradition—it’s the law, too! Everyone on the float must wear a mask or paint their face. The practice was originally started to encourage people to mingle and talk to everyone—even those outside your social circle or class.

8. Each float in a Mardi Gras parade is decorated differently to fit into a central theme, which can be anything from literature to humor. As you could imagine, work on the following year's floats start soon after Fat Tuesday concludes.

9. Historians believe Mardi Gras arrived in North America in 1699 and then spread to New Orleans in 1718.

10. The Big Easy may be home to one of the most well known celebrations, but plenty of other places have their own takes on this festival. The first Carnival celebration originated in Nice, France while Rio de Janeiro, Quebec City and Trinidad and Tobago all have their own celebrations as well. Looking for a more local way to celebrate Mardi Gras? Head to Mobile, Alabama or St. Louis, Missouri.

Warmly,

Audra Harrold
