Last week, a woman in China (“Lin”) reached by a Global Scholars professor was baptized. We praise God for another changed life in this closed country!
It was a quiet event, taking place in the bathtub of an undisclosed Chinese home with a few Christian friends present. In a country that is unfriendly to Christianity, it was a courageous step for Lin to accept Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and declare this publicly through baptism.
It wasn’t until “Spencer,” a Global Scholars professor and his wife “Liz,” arrived in China to teach several years ago that Lin was introduced to Christianity. She was simply a university student sent to the airport to meet them upon their arrival in China.

Lin continued serving as a liaison, helping Spencer and Liz adapt to the new culture and assisting with practical living skills such as banking, shopping and transportation. In a country where Spencer and Liz knew few people, Lin's guidance was a tremendous blessing.

From this, the relationship turned into friendship and then to a family-type bond. Even after her role as liaison was no longer needed, they continued to further their relationship through shared interests and care for one another.
Lin had no relationship with Christ. She didn’t own a Bible. She even inquired as to Jesus' last name. But Lin began to ask probing and challenging questions about the Faith, both in class and in social settings. She was building a foundation of understanding and she was more and more interested in God's plan of salvation. As Lin's interest grew, Spencer sensed God's leading to connect her with an underground church and a small study group in China. She went. She learned. She continued to ask questions and seek the Truth.
Spencer and his wife returned to the US while Lin continued her studies in China. Spencer still stayed in touch with Lin and recently assisted her with both developing a resume and searching for a job. Lin is now a successfully employed business woman in China, poised to become an influential member of the business community.

Just last week Lin called Spencer on Skype. She had important news and wanted to share it with her former Global Scholars professor right away. Lin told him she had just accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and had been baptized!

From humble beginnings, being born in a stable, Jesus came into this world for Lin, as He did for all of us. We are so thankful for your support which helps students like Lin experience the true meaning of Christmas.
