Bayou Teche Paddle Trail

Making Waves

We are improving access for kayaks and canoes along the bayou in partnership with the University of Louisiana, Lafayette. We will begin installation of new floating docks, ramps and make improvements in just a few months.  In a second partnership with the Lafayette Metropolitan Planning Organization, we will begin building a new trailhead in Parc des Ponts in Breaux Bridge in 2014, complete with bathrooms and a drinking fountain. This trailhead will serve both paddlers on the BTPT and runners/bicyclists on the Atakapas-Ishak Trail.  TECHE Project will present an update to the Breaux Bridge City Council on Tuesday, October 8.

The official BTPT map is near completion at the Louisiana Geologic Survey. Waterproof maps will be available for purchase in early 2014. For more information contact Kristen Kordecki at techeproject@gmail.com.

Trash Bash & Boogie

Bring a boat or use of the kayaks provided by Bayou Teche Experience. To learn more, contact Dane Thibodeaux at techeproject@gmail.com.

Shake Your Trail Feather

Saturday, October 19

It's almost here!  Paddle your kayak, peddle your bike or run to Parc des Ponts in Breaux Bridge on Saturday, October 19th from noon-5:00pm. Shake Your Trail Feather raises funds to improve the Bayou Teche Paddle Trail in all communities along the Teche. Music, food, beer help make this growing festival one of the most unique in the area. A special heritage tent will be presented by Louisiana Folk Roots and information from organizations promoting low-impact recreation, nature-based tourism and environmental education will be on hand. Come "shake your trail feather" with Cory Ledet and His Zydeco Band, Makers Reel and Bon Soir, Catin.    We will raffle a kayak provided by Pack and Paddle and give away a rain barrel provided by Lafayette Consolidated Government.  To join in the Lafayette Paddle Club trip from Poche Bridge to the event, please contact mlvanetten@yahoo.com. Kayak rentals for this trip available at Bayou Teche Experience, 337-366-0337.

The event is free. Festival pins will be available for $5 and will go towards the BTPT.  For other questions, please contact Patti Holland at techeproject@gmail.com.
