NM SMART Grid Center Externships (students supported by NM EPSCoR)
Externships are funding opportunities for graduate students to spend time at a national lab, industry or research facility, government agency, or higher education institution other than the student's host institution. Amount: Up to $4,000.

GEM Fellowship (UNM & NMSU - MS & PhD Minorities)
Supporting underrepresented minorities in science & engineering programs. Both fellowships cover full tuition and fees. Amount: PhD - at least $16k living stipend per year; MS - $16k stipend over entire MS program.

American Association of University Women Fellowships (Women students)
*All of the AAUW opportunities below allow funds to be used for dependent child care*

DOE: NNSA SSGF (Undergrad seniors, 1-2 year grad students)
Goal: The DOE National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship (SSGF) program's primary objective is to encourage the training of scientists by providing financial support to talented students who study and research designated areas of stewardship science accompanied by practical work experience at DOE NNSA research facilities.
Amount: All tuition and fees covered plus $38K stipend and $1K for professional development. 

 
Deadline: Jan 11    
CRA: Distributed Research Experiences for Undergrads (Undergrads)
Goal: To increase the number of people from underrepresented groups including women, minorities, or persons with disabilities who are enrolled in graduate studies in the fields of computer science and computer engineering. Amount: $7K per summer plus relocation travel assistance when appropriate. 
 
Deadline: Feb 15    
Call for Proposals: NM EPSCoR Collaborative Innovation Working Groups
Goal: To financially support collaborations (meetings, trainings, groups) that seek to promote research innovation and integration in smart grid-related areas. Any individual from a NM academic institution or national lab may submit a proposal. Direct involvement in a NM EPSCoR-funded project is NOT a requirement. Amount: Up to $7,500.

NSF: EPSCoR Track 2 - Focused Collaborations
Goal: To support interjurisdictional teams of EPSCoR investigators to perform research in emerging industries, with the goal of promoting economic growth in their jurisdictions. Theme: Advancing climate change research and resilience capacity to expand opportunities for disproportionately affected communities.  Amount: Two jurisdictions → $1M/yr up to 4 yrs. Three or more → $1.5M/yr up to 4 yrs.

NSF: Mid-scale Research Infrastructure-1
Goal: To support the design and implementation of research infrastructure — including equipment, cyberinfrastructure, large-scale datasets and personnel — whose total project costs exceed NSF's Major Research Instrumentation program but are under $20 million. Proposals for infrastructure that advances research on climate science and the impacts of climate change are encouraged. Amount: $400K–up to but not including $20M

NSF: Mid-Career Advancement (MCA)
Goal: To support opportunities for scientists and engineers at the associate professor rank (or equivalent) to substantively enhance and advance their research program through synergistic partnerships.
Amount: Variable. Funding for up to a total of 6.5 months of PI salary (plus fringe benefits) and one month of summer support for each collaborative partner.
