LEADWEST'S E-NEWSLETTER

The LeadWest Advocate provides a summary insight into LeadWest's activities; including information on achievement of agreed priorities in the strategic action plan for Melbourne’s west, upcoming events in Melbourne's west, and opportunities for us to work together for the betterment of our region.

In between e-newsletters, you can keep up to date with what is happening in Melbourne's west via the LeadWest website news updates, facebook and twitter.

We've been using these tools, our approach to advocacy for the region, and our interactions with people to help build a much more positive image of Melbourne’s west.  We've been helping people see the sense in supporting this region as it grows. We've been helping build investors' interest in our region as a place delivering a great deal of opportunity.

To reinforce the positive change in perception of our great region, we have arranged a very special event for the first week of September in the Parliament of Victoria. ‘Spring into the West’ comprises three elements:
  • A week long showcase in Queens Hall of some of the best of Melbourne’s west
  • A networking event at which Victoria’s parliamentarians and their staff can mix with representatives of LeadWest’s 20 members, 26 affiliates and stakeholders from Melbourne's west.
  • Meetings for a delegation of the Mayors and CEOs of local governments in Melbourne’s west.
For most of you, your opportunity to be involved is at the networking function.  Attendees will hear from the Premier of Victoria, the Hon Dr Denis Napthine; LeadWest's Chair, Mr Barry Harvey AM, as well as  Mr Gary Mehigan, owner of The Boathouse restaurant on the Maribyrnong River and a passionate advocate for Melbourne’s west. We do hope you will join us at this event. More information and registration

We'll also soon be seeking to stage an event with the Opposition Leader, key Shadow Ministers and local MPs.

We look forward to continuing to connect with you.
Craig Rowley - CEO LeadWest

THREAD 1: EDUCATION AND SKILLS

Footscray Learning Precinct:  LeadWest’s CEO has been briefed by Mr Wade Noonan MP (Member for Williamstown) on Victorian Labor’s commitment of $15 million to make Footscray the potential home of a preschool-to-postgraduate education precinct.  Labor’s proposal – a national first – will bring together on one campus early childhood education providers, Footscray City Primary School, Footscray City College, Victoria University and other stakeholders.  The precinct complements Victoria University’s and Maribyrnong City Council’s ‘University Town’ strategy for Footscray. Mr Noonan advised LeadWest’s CEO that once the proposal passes a feasibility study, a master plan would be developed with Victoria University, schools and other stakeholders, potentially including LeadWest.

FreshWest:  LeadWest joined the Mayor of Hobsons Bay City Council attending the official opening of NZ-based Prolife Foods (owner of the Mother Earth brand).  From humble beginnings in a garage in Hamilton, Prolife Foods had become a Waikato Food success story, and is now in it's 19th year of operation.
