Institute to launch new consumer engagement program

Next Monday a new consumer engagement program, ask an architect, will be launched to the public. Designed to increase public awareness of architects, the program is particularly focused on the residential consumer market.
The shop front for ask an architect will be the new website (, a portal that offers a wide range of information about architects and architecture. It will contain tips, fact sheets, tools, videos, an events calendar and an inspiration gallery. It will also provide opportunities for potential clients to engage with all of our members.

Gold Medal Tour

Phil Harris and Adrian Welke, co-founders of Troppo, have been awarded the 2014 Gold Medal at the Australian Achievement in Architecture Awards.

The Gold Medal tour kicked off in June in Darwin and will travel around the country throughout September and October.

New Australian Pavilion in Venice takes shape

The two-level concrete and steel frame that forms the structure of Australia’s new pavilion in the Venice Biennale precinct is now in place. At the end of next month, black granite panels will be installed as this, the first 21st century building in the historic Giardini della Biennale, begins to take shape.

Droga Residency: Mechthild Stuhlmacher

Rotterdam-based architect Mechthild Stuhlmacher has been awarded the second Droga Residency. Mechthild and partner Rien develop work around materiality, directness, careful proportions, daylight, sensuality and the integration of nature in the broadest sense into the architecture: healing architecture. 
During her residency Mechthild will research the relationship between inside and outside, and architecture and landscape, specifically in the context of well working, ‘healthy’ buildings for care and education-related programs.
