BEMP . the Foundation . Griffin Lecture at Press Club

We have just confirmed more great speakers for BEMP, which takes place in our national capital in a fortnight. Paul Low, Tim Fischer and Warren Mundy will join the Hon Greg Hunt MP, the Hon Jamie Briggs MP, Professor John Thwaites, Senator Scott Ludlam, Tania Cox, Professor Barbara Norman, Brendan Nelson, Garry Bowditch, Rene Van Meeuwen and Michael Rayner from Cox Architects.

AAUD dinner - book now and save on BEMP!

14 Jul, Canberra
The 2014 Australia Award for Urban Design (AAUD) recipients will be announced at an awards dinner at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. The evening will include welcome drinks, canapés and a two-course dinner. The AAUD recognises urban design projects of high quality in Australia and encourage cities, towns and emerging settlements to strive for improvement.

Social Sustainability 

From 17 Jul
This presentation by Dr Angelique Edmonds will discuss the growing public policy emphasis on wellbeing and performance of public spaces, how we can respond, what this means for innovation in design practice, who is involved in delivering Social Sustainability, why it is important, and what happens if we don’t.

Minimum Wage increase from 1 July

The Fair Work Commission has announced an increase to the 2014 national minimum wage. This increase affects minimum wages in modern awards, like the Architects Award 2010 and is effective from the first pay period on or after 1 July 2014. The wage increase will affect the minimum wages of juniors, trainees and employees with a disability. To check your minimum entitlements, or, for employers, to see if you're compliant, access the Award here.

Eat Drink Design Awards

Entries close 25 July
It’s time to get your entries in for the 2014 Eat Drink Design Awards, which recognise the designers behind Australasia’s great eating and drinking experiences. There is a prize pool of $9000, with excellence awarded in six categories. Entry is open to all design professionals, regardless of their location, for projects in Australia and New Zealand completed between 1 January 2013 and 30 June 2014.

Making 2014 - survey winner!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Making 2014 survey following the conference, your feedback and suggestions are always welcome! Congratulations to Katerina Dracopoulos! For participating in the post-conference survey Katerina has won complimentary registration to the 2015 National Architecture Conference taking place in Melbourne 14-16 May 2015.

2015 Gold Medal - nominations now open

Nominations are now being received for the 2015 Gold Medal, the Institute's highest individual architectural honour. Submissions can be made via chapter managers and presidents, and must include the name, biography, career history and distinguished work of the nominee, with some documentation of their work. Nominations close Thu 24 July.
