Internet Scam: False Billing

A prevalent internet scam has come to our attention through a member who was targeted.

The scam works through the creation of a fake profile on a fake directory website using your public business information, they then send you invoices for the directory listing or advertising that you have not requested. The scammers then proceed to regularly contact you and may even make threats of taking legal action for not paying their fraudulent invoice. Such conduct is illegal and can be reported to local police.

Please check the government Scamwatch site for more information and actions to take should it happen to you.
