I am looking forward to visiting Chapters in South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland over the coming weeks. I will have a chance to speak to staff in person as well as attend some Chapter councils and events. This will be an opportunity for me to get a very real sense of how the Institute’s recent changes have impacted at a local level, as well as discussing the positive signs of progress and near-term improvements the organisation is making.

The NSW Chapter and the Gender Equity task force (GET) was proud to host a very successful breakfast on International Women's Day last week. Celebrating women in architecture, the breakfast featured Justine Clarke, the 2015 Marion Mahony prize winner, addressing her career and research work. The breakfast was set against the stunning harbour skyline at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Sydney Architext Bookshop has closed its doors after 28 years

The Sydney Architext Bookshop opened its doors in 1988 and has provided books, services and a friendly smile from its proud manager, Anne Proudfoot, for the past 28 years. The bookshop closed its doors for the last time last Friday with all remaining stock being sent to a new venue for design literature in Surry Hills, Sydney.

Architext and the NSW Chapter of the Institute takes this opportunity to thank all its members and customers for their patronage and support over the years.
 
  

Mentoring Program 2016

The 2016 Mentoring Program will launch on 12 April and applications are now open for both mentors and mentees. Eligible participants include architecture Masters students, graduates and architects, all of whom must be current members of the Australian Institute of Architects.

Current building regulations can sometimes produce insurmountable barriers for small creative enterprises by making it costly and difficult to use existing buildings for new cultural purposes. The Houses Awards are open to any residential project located within Australia and completed between 1 January 2015 and 29 February 2016. Excellence is awarded in nine categories ($1000 cash prizes), with the best house receiving the premier award of Australian House of the Year ($5000 cash prize).

ASI Steel Excellence Awards 2016

Entries are now open for projects fabricated in Australia using predominantly Australian steel.
The awards are conducted biennially to promote excellence in steel design recognising creative approaches with structural and architectural elements in the built environment. Projects completed since July 2014 are eligible for entry.
