Dear Friends & Supporters of Classical Tahoe,

I hope Thanksgiving gave you the chance to relax with family, friends, and music.

It is hard to believe it is now December and the close of the year and the decade.  It is a time of reflection and gratitude. It is also a time to look ahead to what the future holds and how we will contribute.

As you know, 2020 is Classical Tahoe 9th season. Each year we strive to deliver music programs to match the exceptional beauty and spirit of Tahoe.

We need your help to ensure the continuation of the Classical Tahoe Orchestra and the Music Institute as we head towards the end of the year and look towards our second decade of music-making. Can you make a gift today?

In the midst of enjoying the winter season, I look forward with anticipation and delight towards next summer, when we are all together again in the Classical Tahoe Pavilion.

May the coming weeks bring you much joy, and thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Le Nozze di Figaro

The Metropolitan Opera
New York, New York

NOV 16, 2019 - FEB 22, 2020

"Two outstanding casts—including sopranos Nadine Sierra, Anita Hartig, Susanna Phillips, and Hanna-Elisabeth Müller; mezzo-sopranos Gaëlle Arquez and Marianne Crebassa; baritone Mariusz Kwiecien; and bass-baritones Luca Pisaroni and Adam Plachetka—come together for Mozart’s scintillating class comedy. Antonello Manacorda and Cornelius Meister conduct Sir Richard Eyre’s fast-paced production.

Figaro’s amazing score mirrors the complex world it depicts. The first impression is one of tremendous beauty and elegance. Dig a little deeper, and you’ll find all the underlying pain and deception, with a constant tension between the social classes and the sexes, where each character has something to gain and something to hide. Standout solo numbers include the Countess’s two arias, Cherubino’s “Voi, che sapete,” Susanna’s “Deh, vieni, non tardar,” and Figaro’s arias, the angry Act IV diatribe against womankind, “Aprite un po’ quegli occhi,” and Act I’s “Non più andrai,” in which not even the most buoyant and memorable melody in the world can quite hide the character’s sarcasm." -metopera.org

Visualizing Beethoven: Why Do We Like “Watching” Classical Music?

San Francisco Classical Voice
Poised at the top of a mild slope, a lone, intrepid sledder pauses to adjust his hat before pushing off into the unknown. It’s an easy ride at first, a few jolts here and there but some pleasant, wintry scenery overall. A light breeze tosses his scarf behind him in a flash of red as his velocity increases. Poor sucker. Before long he’s hanging on for dear life on the ride of his life, whizzing over increasingly large jumps and crashing down onto steeper and steeper slopes, zipping around backwards and upside down with only the occasional sighting of another rider on a parallel track to provide any comfort. There’s something about that other rider. Is it adrenaline-fueled infatuation? Is it love at first sight? He doesn’t know, but if he makes it, he’s tracking down that green-scarfed fellow daredevil, if nothing else just to ask, “Did you hear the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth coming from somewhere, or was that just me?”
