Improving Mental Health in Africa

Since beginning fieldwork in 2014, StrongMinds has empowered 7,038 African women by treating their depression and enabling these women and their families to lead more healthy, productive, and satisfying lives.
As we move into the start of the last sessions of StrongMinds Therapy Groups for 2016 in Uganda, we wanted to share a few updates with you -- and one of our many of success stories.  Enjoy!
WEBSITE REDESIGN
StrongMinds is pleased to announce its brand new website -- StrongMinds.org.  The website showcases the work of StrongMinds through in-depth webpages as well as videos, photos, and stories.  Click here to take a look online.
EXPANDING TO NEW AREAS
StrongMinds is currently working in two areas of Uganda: the capital city of Kampala, including the surrounding district of Wakiso, and the district of Iganga in the Eastern region of the country.  We plan to expand to neighboring Kenya in 2018.  Click here to learn more about our model.

STORIES FROM THE FIELD
Wanyama poses with a few beaded bags and the materials she used to launch her own small business, which brings in ~$20 a week allowing her and her family to pay for food and other necessities. She credits her StrongMinds Talk Therapy group for helping her discover this talent. Click here to read Wanyama's story.

MENTAL HEALTH NOW
StrongMinds is proud to be a founding partner of mhNOW, a new global movement committed to improving mental health around the world.  mhNOW was formally launched at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting last week.  Click here to learn more about mhNOW.

The mission of StrongMinds is to improve the mental health of African women.  We are initially focused upon treating women in Africa who suffer from the most common mental illness: depression.  StrongMinds is the only organization focused on depression in the developing world. We are guided by our goal to treat two million depressed African women by 2025 — enabling these women and their families to lead healthy, productive, and satisfying lives.
