COVID Updates  |  11/20/2020

Travel Advisory
Thank you for everyone’s attention to the new travel advisory.  We appreciate the team effort to keep Lighthouse in-person and as safe as possible.
As a reminder:
Governor Inslee has issued a travel advisory for Washington, which recommends a 14-day quarantine for interstate and international travel, and suggests residents stay close to home.

  • Lighthouse is following the WA State Travel Advisory which recommends a 14-day quarantine.
  • Please be mindful of COVID-related guidelines regarding holiday gatherings.
  • We are trusting families to make safe choices for both your family and the Lighthouse community.

Facial Coverings
We have appreciated everyone’s efforts to adhere to Lighthouse’s guidelines regarding facial coverings.  Lighthouse continues to make a strong effort to employ CDC guidelines to operate as a school.  The CDC has made some updates concerning facial coverings that we will be putting into effect next week.

  • Wear masks with two or more layers to stop the spread of COVID-19
  • Wear the mask over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin or to your neck/shoulders

The CDC continues to evaluate facial coverings and their effectiveness, and school leadership will continue to evaluate the feasibility of facial coverings in school operations. For now, school leadership agrees that this guidance will help us stay safely in-person. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you.

Living to serve,

Stephen Roddy
Head of School

Important Student Pick-Up Reminder
We are starting to get backed up onto Point Fosdick again at pick-up time.  Please do not come earlier than the following assigned times. This will help traffic flow and safety. We want your student to get the full-time benefit of being in the classroom. Thank you for your partnership with this critical function of school operations.
  • Kindergarten only: 2:35 PM
  • Middle School only: 2:40 PM
  • Elementary students (and siblings): 2:45 PM

We need to hear from you. This is the last Friday and weekend to fill out the first quarter Parent Survey and receive a casual dress day next Monday, November 23rd. All information that you provide in the survey is anonymous and confidential and will be reviewed by the board committee and administration.  Parent Survey results will be presented to the Board of Directors in December. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to help Lighthouse Christian School fulfill its mission.

Parents, please be sure to take a look at the Parent-Student Handbook addendum to learn how Honor Roll for fourth and fifth graders is measured.  We recognize Honor Roll to be an exceptional merit of academic achievement.  Please contact Mrs. Mathisen or your student’s teacher with any questions about the Elementary School honor roll.

We are looking for a Lighthouse student to design our annual Christmas postcard! One wonderful drawing will be chosen for the front of a Christmas postcard that will be mailed to the families and friends of Lighthouse Christian School. Some important notes:
  • We are looking for a Christian, rather than a secular, Christmas drawing.
  • Drawings must fit on a 5½” by 8½” postcard (1/2 page).
  • Drawings may be horizontal or vertical.
  • Drawings should be in color.
  • Students may enter up to 3 drawings for consideration.
  • Submit your drawing on a half sheet of white paper. Please print your full name and your teacher’s name on the back.
  • All drawings must be turned into the Main Office by end of the school day Monday, November 30, to be considered.
  • Students should work on the postcard drawings at home as there will not be scheduled class time for this.

Do you have any used sports gear lying around in the house or garage?
Let Others Play
, founded by LCS alums Joey Vaughan (LCS 2018) and Levi Baur (LCS 2017), is having a sports gear drive now through December 15th. Donation bins are located near the Main and Middle School offices.

Last year with your help, we collected over 450 pieces of new and used sports equipment for children! Your desire to make a difference in our community had a significant impact on the Boys and Girls Club. Thank you for your generous heart and donations for the Let Others Play program.

“I just wanted to say thank you once again for all of the sports equipment. This is a big deal for a lot of kids…sports participation is very expensive. You guys are giving these kids something many of them would never get a chance to experience if it weren’t for people like you. You will go far with that heart and attitude. On behalf of the club, we appreciate your donations.”

Sarah Stochel, Athletics Manager, Boys and Girls Club
