2020-21 UPDATES  |  08-12-2020
Dear Lighthouse families,

Last week, we communicated our commitment to in-person education and presented our comprehensive plan to carry that out in a safe and responsible way.  We have just been informed by Dr. Chen, of the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department, that he is requiring that all Pierce County schools, public and private, must start the school year remotely. Attached is his letter clarifying his position. Based on this information, Lighthouse Christian School will start the school year in Distance Learning but will transition to in-person as soon as the case rate drops in Pierce County (75 per 100,000 over a 14 day period). I know this may disappoint many of you who are eager for in-person education for your kids.  I can promise that even with the start of Distance Learning, we are already planning meaningful, in-person connections between teachers and peers in smaller groups (five or less).  More details on this will be shared early next week.  I also am convinced of the quality and care that each of our teachers will put into Distance Learning and our eventual transition to in-person education.

Tuition Cost

The Board of Directors has approved a variable tuition discount while we are in Distance Learning due to the level of parent supervision/teaching needed. Kindergarten through 2nd grade will receive a 20% discount, and 3rd through 8th grade will receive a 10% discount.  Although this discount is not meant to equalize the amount of time parents must supervise during Distance Learning, it serves as a show of our appreciation for your continued commitment to Lighthouse and Christian education.  The first tuition payment is due next Monday, the 17th.  Please contact the Finance Office if you have any questions about the tuition payment schedule.

Christian Education

I stand before you concerned about the future of our wonderful children, and the future of Lighthouse Christian School. Make no mistake, Jesus will always be King, I will always praise His Name regardless of what this year brings. Christian education is being attacked, intentionally and unintentionally, through these current times. I would humbly ask that you would consider one or more of the following ways to support the work the Lord accomplishes through this amazing faculty:
  1. Pray for the health of the school, and all Christian schools, its students and staff.  Please ask for the Lord’s protection over everyone not only for physical health needs but also for social/emotional needs.  God has designed us for community and connecting in a meaningful way is increasingly difficult.
  2. Enroll your student(s).  This has the most direct impact on the sustainability of our school.  Enrollment is what keeps our wonderful teachers and staff working here and keeps our quality, Christ-centered education accessible.  Every family needs to make a decision that is best for their family, first and foremost, but we promise to provide a nurturing, meaningful, and rigorous academic program regardless of the model of operations.
  3. Prayerfully consider donating to Lighthouse.  Your donations could mean the difference of keeping Lighthouse ready for the upcoming challenges and provide the means to support our staff throughout the year.
Lighthouse Christian School was started by parents who wanted a school to train and educate their children to be Christ-centered and to set a Biblical foundation for every student. Lighthouse stays committed to providing quality Christian education that will nurture the whole child.  Our world needs future leaders who build their character and make decisions based on Biblical principles. In order for our students to thrive, they will need a Biblical worldview to provide meaning and purpose, giving them the opportunity to meet the potential of how God has designed them. Every student needs consistent and loving instruction to make a positive impact in the community for the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
