America's Youngest Poet Laureate:
Amanda Gorman
We are deeply moved by the Biden-Harris Inauguration this afternoon and feel a sense of hope for the continued promise of our democracy, but not without continued dedication and hard work.
One of the highlights was 22-year old Amanda Gorman, National Youth Poet Laureate. We are struck by her poem, The Hill We Climb. It is a new composition she said she hoped would "speak to the moment" and "do this time justice."
An excerpt from Gorman during a media interview:
"I firmly believe that this moment, when it comes to race, is a moment of redefinition and revolution. I believe that the fact that this moment at times is so painful and terrifying might actually be a source of hope — because usually the things that matter, the things that make change, and the things that last for generations to come are painful and terrifying for the generations that initiated them." – Amanda Gorman, National Youth Poet Laureate
