500th DLRR member

This week we welcomed Emma to the club who became our 500th member

This is fantastic milestone as we have only been going as a club for less than 3 years - WOW

Welcome to DLRR evening

In January we usually get many new runners joining us for the first run with the club and one thing we are going to try next year is a 'welcome to DLRR' evening',

We could do with your help in getting this invite out to anyone who may be interested in the club or any part of the club. Also if you are free on the evening to come and meet new runners and tell them your story about running with DLRR.

New runners are more than welcome to come along to our main club runs on Monday evenings at 19.00 or Wednesday mornings at 9.30am, or to try the marathon (and half) training Sunday runs (,

But we are also going to offer this free 'welcome evening' to come along if you have just started with the club or want to make this you first time with DLRR and find out more about us.

It will be on Tuesday 14 January at 19.00 upstairs at David Lloyd and we will first of all tell new runners a little bit about the club and what we do and about how our runs work and how we look after all our runners and the benefits of being in a club.

After this we will then go out for a short run to give a nice easy demonstration of what we do on some of our runs.

We will have plenty of time for any questions.and aim it to last about 75 to 90 minutes

MK marathon and DLRR team up

You may have seen the David Lloyd Redway Runners are teaming up with the Milton Keynes marathon for 2014, we will be offering to the Milton Keynes marathon and half marathon runners our Sunday run and our marathon clinics.

This is a great piece of news for the club and shows a great level of support for what we have done and are doing in the club

It does mean that our Sunday runs in 2014 could be even bigger next year!! (in 2012 we had 65 runners and n 2013 was 76 for the first week) looking like 2014 will be even more popular!! And we will be getting so many more people through the marathon and the half marathons.

We have already done much of the planning with the starts agreed and lengths of the runs and we have the infrastructure in place, with the run leader and the initial helper, we will still need further support on each run with tail bikes. and possibly more helpers within the group, and anyone that could act as mobile support for the run. So if you can help with these let us know

Anyway hope you are looking forward to training on Sundays as much as we all are

Christmas Present Box

For the last few years we have collected presents for the Salvation Army to distribute in Milton Keynes on Christmas Day, this was hugely successful and we would like to continue this tradition. So if you could please bring a present wrapped and labelled as for a boy or girl with a rough age group.
Please be careful to included batteries where needed. There will be a box just inside the function room to put these in on arrival at the Christmas meal on Friday 6 December, or before this can leave with Martin or the run lead

Cross Country running

We have a idea, which is very much in it's early stages. Does anyone know of any running clubs that would love to do the cross country season, but can't get in a league? If you can let us know also any contact details would help too.

Christmas Raffle

Christmas Raffle tickets are now available from Martin and Julie, available at £1 per ticket or £5 per strip.

A separate draw will also be held for a free MK Marathon or half place -Tickets also £1 each.

The superb selection of prizes are already confirmed (Thank you to all out generous benefactors) can be viewed on the website

Sports Insurance

Been asked to pass on details of this Sport insurance that members may be interested in (this is by no way a recommendation, etc)

Sports are enjoyed by millions across the UK and having an injury that prohibits your participation can be bad enough, but sometimes the repercussions beyond sport, such as loss of income, can be greater. Our Sports Accident Insurance has been specifically designed to provide some financial benefit in the event of an injury occurring whilst taking part in amateur sports activities.
Only when the dust from the heat of competition settles, do most people, if they have been injured, turn their thoughts to what happens next in their life beyond their chosen sport. Will you have to take time off work? What if you are self-employed? These are important things to consider and even if you are able to work, what if you require physiotherapy?
This could be a most unwelcome cost. You don’t even have to be playing sport as our policies can cover you whilst travelling to and from a scheduled match, training session or whilst on an organised tour.
