Update; 11 June 2015

New Running core session

Strength and core exercises will actually help your running and prevent injuries, so we are starting a new free for Redway Runners Tuesday night core session starting on Tuesday 16 June at 7pm (till 8pm) each week at Special Ops at Caldecotte. The session will be led by Mack.

Location code is SRLC.LY8 at http://www.mapcode.com/index.html?iso3=166&mapcode=SRLC.LY8&xx=-0.714971&yy=52.012237

This session is an alternative to the new club run lead by Paul CJ on Tuesday's at 7pm

Tring parkrun Saturday

With MK parkrun cancelled this Saturday (13 June) - time for another Redway Runners road trip and it is Tring parkrun this time.

More on the event at:
http://www.parkrun.org.uk/tring/

We have had this message from them:
--

We're looking forward to welcoming many of you at Tring parkrun next week.

For those that are not familiar with us, we're (compared with MK) a small event (roughly 120 runners). Our course is a hilly, single loop round Tring Park - across chalk grassland and through forest tracks. We've even got our own cows - real ones, not concrete ones!

It will be great to have you join us.

Additionally,
we have been looking at the stats for the Tring parkrun and our road trip for this Saturday - and in the interests of fun we held the largest club from the first week until Tring Running Club (TRC) decided to take our record, so I asked Helen to check the latest position - which is below - so all in the aim of fun we need at least 33 to come along this Saturday
NOTE Group photo - 8.50 at the start area
--
We (Tring Running club) managed to have 32 from TRC. We have also begun to get some parkrunners who have started to join TRC so this month we have had a couple of weeks with 18 for TRC. So the Redway 17 record which stood for 28 weeks – is now down to 4th place ! 

So for 2nd place – you will need 19 Green shirted runners and for 1st place you will need 33.

However many there are – looking forward to seeing the group and ask them to give me a shout for a team photo (either before or after) – as I am on “Photographer” duties this week

On a slightly serious note – please can you ask them to carshare where possible and  use the carpark on Hastoe Lane (rather than the lane itself) to avoid the lane getting too busy. The carpark is on the left on Hastoe Lane, as you leave the town (about 200m after the Natural History Museum). Thanks

Great Glastonbury School Run

Can you help Carol from the club with the request below - the Redway Runners flags will be helping as well
-----
It’s that time of year where I’d like to ask the Redway Runners if they’d like to help us again with the Great Glastonbury School Run at our first school Glastonbury Thorn in Shenley Church End. We will be in our fourth year of holding the event where all our children (aged 4-7) train and take part in a 2km run with their classmates. To support this, very kindly, a number of Redway Runners have come along to join us in the past to be the ‘elite runners’ in our ‘mini marathons’.
The dates are Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd July

At all times the class teachers and myself will be there so nobody needs DRB checking, we have lots of first aiders on course with plasters (for the children!)

We'll be running 9 separate 'marathons' one for each class, each race lasts about half an hour with a warm-up.

Our school day starts at 9 and ends at 3, although all races are scheduled to finish by 2 each day.
There will be breaks throughout the day for playtime and lunchtime; lunch break is from 12 until 1.
It is a course with laps (usually around the playground)J
Could people please e-mail me at school to sign up to help with a few/all races?
cdowns@glastonburythorn.co.uk

Cheers and thanks for your continued support with our running.
Carol Downs

Zero to Hero update

On Sunday we kicked of formally our 'Zero to Hero' programme in the club with our runners taking part and some of the mentors with an introduction session at Special Ops.
Hope all enjoyed and are looking forward to the challenges ahead

Beginners Group starts

Our new free evening beginners group started on Monday evening with 62 new runners and 15 helpers making 79 out for the first week

MK parkrun pacing team

Well done to the pacing team at MK parkrun last Saturday 6 June - think a few managed new PBs

Cranfield 7K

A few Redway Runners who took part in the Cranfield 7k run on Sunday morning. Nice route (although some of it was on the road), free drink and lunch. Very informal - no start line or finish line, no timings, not record of who came where!

They're hoping to run it again next year. This is an ideal distance for many step-up runners so look out for it again next year.

Flamstead 10K

Been asked to let you know about this event:
--
This year sees the second Flamstead 10k race take place on Sunday 18 October. There are also going to be additional 5k race and 1k fun runs for the children to take part in. The event was a resounding success last year and the course takes in some beautiful countryside surrounding Flamstead and Markyate along with a very picturesque start and finish at Beechwood School.
For everyone affiliated to a running club there is an automatic £2 discount which makes the event even more attractive!

We hope to see many of you there. Please check out the website which is now open for registrations.

Adventure Race - 28 June

Been asked to pass on details of this event and discount for the club:
----
I'm Adam, the new owner of Tri-Adventure Limited, and I found your email address on the Internet as a point of contact for your Club.

The reason for getting in touch is to introduce Tri-Adventure to you and your club members.  We offer Adventure Races which incorporate navigation based trail running and mountain biking, all within one exciting event. What is also great about these fixed time frame events is that they cater for all levels of ability.

Adventure Racing has been growing in popularity as new people have been introduced to this sport.

I particularly want to bring to your attention the following Tri-Adventure event which is taking place soon:
  • Sunday 28 June:  Princes Risborough Golf Club (Buckinghamshire) – Adventure Race - Trail (1 hour); Sprint (2 hours); Experience (4 hours).
Full details of, and entry into, this event are available on www.triadventure.co.uk.  I've set up a group discount so, when 3 sign up together, a 10% discount will apply (applicable to Sprint and Experience events only).
