MK Marathon Event Crew needed

The Milton Keynes Marathon and half requires 500+ volunteers for the 5th event on Bank Holiday Monday 2 May 2016. Redway Runners always has a heavy presence at this event especially out on the course acting as marshals.

If you can be a marshal then select:
  1. Course Marshal Zone One: 08:00 - 13:00 - Martin Lawrence
  2. Course Marshal Zone Two: 09:00 - 15:00 - Julie Martin
  3. Course Marshal Zone Three: 10:00 - 17:00 - Doug Yabsley
  4. Course Marshal Zone Four: 8:30 - 14:00 - Jonathan Clements
Or you can volunteer at the stadium or for the Relay event.

Once you select one of these you can select which section you would like to be and the manager for each section is named.

So come on, get in early and join the team and make this flagship event a massive success for Milton Keynes!

As a volunteer you will receive a packed lunch, amazing Event Crew medal as well as an Event Crew T-Shirt to wear on the day. You will also get an invite to the MKM Event Party, which will be held on Saturday 7 May in the evening with a live band.

Want to Start running?

If you are thinking about getting into running in 2016 and do not know where to start hopefully Redway Runners can help you with your goals and you can have fun along the way.

If you are a beginner or returning to running and want to start at step one then in January we have our beginners group - these are 10 week courses and at the end you will do the MK 5K parkrun and move into other club runs. More on these at:

You do not need to start with these groups, if you can run then go straight into our club runs - the main runs are Monday and Thursday evenings and Wednesday mornings, in these we have a whole mixture of different runs from easier paced runs to quicker groups and many of our general runs do our 'famous' loop backs so we keep everyone together and safe. Some of these groups do interval type work giving you the chance to work on fitness and strength.
More on these at:

If you like the longer runs then our Sunday runs are ideal and from January these focus on those working up to the Spring marathon, they start at 9.00am from different places each week - these are very popular in the new year and we get very large numbers of runners - often counted in hundreds of runners.
You will find more on these at:

So what else - you will find out much more about the club by having a look at our Facebook page - do not forget to like the page as well, you will find it at:

Anyway, this is just the essential information to get you started lots more at: - we can tell you more about the club, just drop us an e-mail and we will send you more info and add you to the club weekly mail telling you more about what is going on in the club, mail us at:

NSPCC MK Half Marathon

Looks like the date of the NSPCC MK half marathon has changed from July this year to Sunday 25 September, see announcement below:

Take on the NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon and 10k in 2016

Runners have always enjoyed this fast, flat course around Milton Keynes with chip timing, changing facilities, baggage drop, car parking, four water stations and medical support. We've made exciting changes by moving the event from July to September and adding the option of a 10k run.

Monday Morning Step Up/Coached Sessions back

Monday Morning Step Up/Coached Sessions begin again next week, 11 January. Meeting for a 9.30am start from David Lloyd Reception. They will be running for approximately 45 to 60 minutes, with loop backs where needed. The Coached Sessions will vary and be designed to help you to get confidently to a regular 10K.

This session is the next stage between Beginners and say the Wednesday Club run. Where possible it will be tailored to suit the group on the day, the aim will be to run throughout.

If you're not confident that this is for you, then there is nothing stopping you repeating the Beginners Group which Richard is hosting from 21 January too.

Wife run and Trionium Leith Hill Half

Tim Miles has asked me to let you know about these events on Sunday 6 March (note same date as Festival of Running in Milton Keynes)
I did it last year and its a great one. Its only 400-mts long (uphill, carrying your 'wife'!).
What constitutes a wife is very open - anyone really, so the event is open to many. They must wear a helmet but I've got oads to lend if necessary. Happy to co-ordinate if you want.
Even better, the Leith Hill Half marathon is straight afterwards! Whats there not to like??
Tim Miles
I'm very pleased to be able to let you know that the Leith Hill Half 2015 was voted Britain's Best Race (Runner's World, February 2016).
This was entirely down to the votes of the runners who took part in the race - ALL of whom rated the race at 100% (and all of whom said that they would do the race again).
Thanks to all those who voted - give yourselves a pat on the back - and please accept my sincere thanks for making this rare accolade possible!
This email is also to remind you that online entry for the race is open (it is just two months away, on Sunday 6 March) and that places are going very quickly (the race will sell out). When it's full, it's full.
If you haven't already done so, please enter the race here:

Social at MK Lightning Ice Hockey – 16 January 2016

Following last January’s successful social evening where over 120 Redway Runners enjoyed an MK Lightning ice hockey match we are organising another trip to the Milton Keynes Lightning ice hockey match on Saturday 16 January 2016.  The game starts at 19:00 and is against the Guildford Flame at the ice rink just behind “Argos” and “Toys R Us” near MK Central Station. MK Lightning are having a good season, being 2nd in the league at the time of writing.
We have managed to get an excellent discount on ticket prices.  Adults will cost £8.50 (instead of the normal £13.50) and children under 16 years of age will be charged at £4 (instead of the normal £7.00).  Those who have never been to ice hockey before are in for an evening of a fast paced, hard hitting game with the odd fight here and there!  The game will be over at about 9.15pm.  There is a splendid bar and good food and beverage facilities.  We will all be seated in a block together which will add to the fun.
To book your seats please can you let Kevin Orchard ( know how many tickets you would like?  Bank transfers to Redway Runners account:
  • Sort code 301553
  • Number 42390360
  • Name; Redway Runners
(reference “ice hockey” please)

or a cheque (payable to 'Redway Runners') to Martin will secure your seats. Absolute closing date will be Wednesday 13 January at 17:00.

If anybody fancies it, we are able to skate for free after the game until 11pm, you just need to pay for skate hire on the night at £2.50 each.  For those not up for a bit of skating we will move over to Wetherspoons at 171 Midsummer Boulevard for a drink or two after the game.
