NSPCC Half Marathon

Just days now until the NSPCC half marathon, 6 July, and a couple more updates to add to below:

- Remember the parkrun on the Saturday the 5 July in MK is cancelled - so a group of us are heading on a DLRR road trip to Buckingham parkrun, may want to leave a few minutes earlier as it the Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone

- If you are after the green addition to your race day outfit then Card Factory have some items in green (allegedly!)

- If not racing please let us know if you can help with the water station we are manning on the day at about mile 9, near to David Lloyd - more below

- No club Sunday run on 6 July

This year DLRR are looking after a water station on the course at mile 9 - on the canal near to David Lloyd - can you help on the day and you can cheer on our runners - if you can help - please let Jenny Dowling know or mail me and I will pass on your details - see more below.

Will be having our usual post race celebration drinks in Wetherspoons on the Sunday evening from 19.00, all welcome at:

DLRR lite - next few weeks

Over the next few weeks DLRR will be taking a little break behind the scenes - all the usual club runs will be taking place - but some background tasks may take a little longer than usual, for example:

Weekly mail next week will be issued next week on Wednesday (so deadline for content for next week is Tuesday 5.00pm), then will miss one week and next mail some time on or after 25 July

Mails to the club may take longer than usual to get replies - please be patient

Clothing orders add extra time for delivery

Committee member Rena Richards will be picking up any major club issues - if you need any help please contact her - she is keeping the hot seat hot!

NSPCC DLRR water station

DLRR are managing the water station at mile 9 on the NSPCC half marathon on Sunday (6 July) and this will also be the club cheering point - come along and help and cheer on the runners - Jenny is looking after it for the club.

They will be meeting at the car park at the end of Livingstone Drive (after David Lloyd entrance) at 8.50 to set up - but if you can not make that come along when you can, the first runner is expected around 10:45 and last runners about 12.30

Wear your green tops if you can - it does help the runners to see friendly faces

DLRR present cheque to Willen Hospice

On the club Wednesday run we presented the cheque to Willen - below is the run update from the day:
Today was one of those runs do not know where to start - actually yes I do and it is this post for one of the runners today:

Did a special thing this morning. Went for a great run with running club and was part of the group that presented a cheque to Willen Hospice for £4000 that the Redway Runners raised last year. A few tears from me but Willen Hospice is such an amazing place, they did so much to care for XXX and all our family in that awful time up to and when he died. Running was always my thing to do with XXX and when he died I thought I would never do it again. But Redways Runners has changed that thanks guys x

That quote (brings a tear to my eye) is why I am so proud of the club and nearly everything we do - we have created a monster. - in a great way.

Anyway we had 32 out for a gloriously warm and sunny day on the Wednesday morning club run - for the general run we did loop backs today - let me know what you thought of that opposed to the out and back - certainly more social way of running.

On the run we went over to Willen Hospice and our Sahara dessert marathon runner, Abi presented the DLRR charity cheque from the running club for a staggering £4,671.40 to Melanie Hitchcock, Community Fundraiser at Willen Hospice.

34 miles, 30 DLRR runners, 6 DLRR solo runners (yes all 34+ miles), 4 DLRR teams, 1 day - must be the Greensands Ridge Relay on Saturday 28 June
Running the relay was unusual to other years in blistering heat our runners had to contend with very heavy rain, mud and even some sunshine along the route - all the way from Leighton Buzzard to Northill (near Sandy). May not have won any trophies but some great fun

So much great running from all - well done hope you enjoyed you runs

Endure 24

Endure 24 is a twenty four hour race run over a 5 mile loop of forest trails. It takes place in the scenic Wasing Park Estate, Aldermaston near Reading last weekend.

Our teams both completed 21 laps each, maybe not as many as they would have like but happy considering the weather conditions. Everyone enjoyed themselves and all liked the medal & (club green) t-shirt!!

Registrations Chasing Prostate Cancer Down

Been asked to pass on details of this event by Sharon - friend of the club:
Hoping that you can advertise this race to all your members and some may be interested in taking part.
There is a local charity run of 5 miles raising monies for Prostate Cancer, on Sunday 14/9 at Furzton Lake. The race is open to males & females over 16yrs and a shorter race of 1 mile, is available for those over 8yrs & under 16yrs.  Following my involvement with Cancer Research UK, I have offered to help the organisers promote the race.
If you or anyone else you know would be interested in taking part, details can be found at
Thank you in advance for your support.
Kind regards - Sharon

parkrun MK specials

We are going to do two parkrun specials:

New Step Up group starting tonight

Due to popular demand, we are adding another step up group into the club run list, it will be on Thursday evenings at 19.00 at the barriers to David Lloyd and will be led by Leigh and Hannah. It will follow a very similar format to the current Monday night group on a route that will be about 6K (more with loopbacks) and will be a social run with everyone running together at their own pace. It will start on Thursday 3 July.

No parkrun in MK - 5 July

Please note that there is no parkrun in MK on July 5 so we have a DLRR mini trip to Buckingham parkrun - remember to leave extra time as this weekend is the Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Remember other local parkruns at:
  • Bedford
  • Buckingham
  • Aylesbury
