parkrun This Saturday

After tonight most beginners have completed week 9 of the current course and are on target to complete their graduation parkrun which is SATURDAY!!!!

All beginners need to register with parkrun and please put your club down as 'Redway Runners' so that we can pick you up in the results.

This is going to also be a big green parkrun so make sure you wear your club tops. We will also be aiming to gt a big green photo near the parkrun start at 8.50am.

It is a very big day for our club and for our beginners in particular. We’re expecting somewhere in the region of 90-100 beginners to do their graduation parkrun. We want to make their experience as good as we possibly can. It is going to be organised chaos so please bear with us as we try to get everything sorted.
  • We’ll be meeting from 8.15am at the end of the road outside the David Lloyd car park gates (Livingstone Drive).
  • If you’ve already arranged to pair up with a particular person, please arrange to meet them at the Tree Cathedral car park before coming up to the David Lloyd end of Livingstone Drive. This will help to reduce the number of people in the area where we’ll be pairing people up.
  • Car parking is likely to be at a premium now that Gulliver’s Land car park is out of use. Possible options are the Tree Cathedral car park, the car park behind the hotel at Willen Lake and the Peace Pagoda car park on Brickhill Street. All of these are Pay & Display. Depending on whether you can stay for a while afterwards, you’ll need to pay for at least 2 hours, possible 3. The Willen Lake and Peace Pagoda car parks are more convenient to walk back to than the Tree Cathedral car park from the parkrun finish.
  • We’re going to aim to have everyone paired up in time for a group photo at 8.50am.
  • The start and finish of parkrun are not in the same place. This means that if you have any coats or jackets for afterwards, you’ll either have to take them round with you or pass them to a friend/relative there to support you or take them to the finish at the Willen Lake bandstand before coming to David Lloyd (You’ll need to leave plenty of time if you’re going to do this – it’s quite a walk if you’re following the paths).
  • If you’re able to bring cakes to help with the after-run celebration, please email Glenn ( to let him know and bring them in a labelled container (if you want it back) on Saturday morning.
  • Don’t forget to bring your parkrun barcode!

  • We have lots and lots of people who have volunteered to buddy but we still need a few more. So if you’re free and able to help us out on Saturday that would be great. Please accept our apologies in advance if we end up with so many buddies that we don’t use you but we hope you’ll agree that this is better than not having enough. It’s also worth noting that because the beginners have come from 7 different groups, we aren’t going to know how quick they’re all going to be. So we’re just going to pair people up semi-randomly on the day to start with. This could mean that we have buddies who are paired up with beginners who may be quicker than them. If you’re worried about this, please say so once you’ve met up on Saturday morning.
  • In the past, we’ve taken a photo of each pair once they’ve been paired up. With such a large number taking part, we could probably do with two or three photographers. You wouldn’t need a fancy camera – a phone camera would be fine. Please email Glenn ( if you can help with this.
  • If you’re able to bring cakes to help with the after-run celebration, please email Glenn ( to let him know and bring them in a labelled container (if you want it back) on Saturday morning. We also need one or two people to help with setting up a Redway Runners area near the parkrun finish. This will be somewhere in the area close to the bandstand and the café.

Here's to a great day.
