Milton Keynes Festival of Running - DLRR Discount

Been able to sort out a 15% discount code for paid members of DLRR for the Milton Keynes Festival of Running in March 2014 (so you are potentially getting £2 discount for affiliated club and a further 15% - membership pays!) .

When entering on-line you need to enter the code 'Redway15' then in the club enter 'David Lloyd Redway Runners'

After entering let us know and will add you to the 'Who Racing Where' page on the club web site

Very sorry to those that have already entered - that could not get this sorted earlier, but the good news is now have the contact so hoping we can make the same arrangement for DLRR members for next year
Entries and more details of the event at:

MultiSports Meeting

As all members of DLRR who renew their membership will automatically be included in the DLRR MultiSports Group, we thought it would be a good idea to hold group meeting on Sunday 9th Feb upstairs at David Lloyd, from 3pm. This meeting will be open to all members of DLRR, who have, or would like to, take part in MultiSports events, such as triathlons, duathlons, aquathons etc. Its even for those who may just like to now what the MultiSports group does in case of future interest in these activities.

We will have the coaching staff involved with the group to give some information on what's available this year, plus news on local training facilities which are new to the club this year.

The coaches will also discuss kit required, technical information about races and equipment, and of course, training programmes. So come and join Nicole, Rich, Lu, Adam, Campbell, Robin, Martin and Gavin on the 9th Feb and find out what events you could take part in this year! Free entry - 3pm start

Tuesday bike run - 21 Jan

For the Tuesday morning club run on the 21 Jan going to offer a little extra! We are planning a group road bike ride (weather permitting) so you will need a road bike, setting off at 9:30am from David Lloyd reception, to be back in time to join the club run at 11.00 (so you can run off the bike)
The bike ride will be led by Fran Malin
The ride will be between 13 and 16 MPH
You do not have to do the club run after so can only do the bike part if you want.

Beginners Group - Help

We have two new beginners groups they both have excellent numbers (the Tuesday evening group is full) the Thursday morning group is nearly full

ANYWAY WE NEED YOUR HELP - with so many runners on these groups Gareth particularly could do with more help:

If you can help then it is, Tuesday's at 18:00 (Thursday's at 10.00am)

Both no longer than 1 hour - please help and make these a success and more fun

NEW Beginners Bike Ride

Saturday 18th January, 12.00, noon outside the Wavendon Arms.

DLRR and Birdy Bunch are doing a joint bike ride on roads, doing about 15 miles and stopping at the bike bus for a coffee (& maybe cake).

For those who have a new bike but not much confidence to ride on the roads and no previous bunch riding experience. It will be a slow ride for beginners only on road bikes and led by Trudie who will teach some basic road riding and bunch skills as well as help people with confidence.

A good chance for people to try out new bikes and equipment like cleates and clothing etc. Trudie can also help people with their bike set ups.

Daytime Beginners group starts

Our new daytime beginners group with Portia started today - Thursday 16 Jan with a fantastic 27 running

Beginners Group

Love it when get some great feedback on the club - had this through:

I feel it is useful to give you feedback on my experience so far at the club - I joined the beginners group on 11th of November and have attended every week that we have had one - every person who I have met or come across has been lovely and very supportive and I was quite nervous as I am not a "runner" - the supporters for Russ at the group ie; Jenny, Veritie, Alison, Keith and Dean have been great and certainly given encouragement when struggling but also ensuring that we get the most out of the sessions - I would certainly recommend this beginners format

Well done to Russ and all his helpers (that includes Keith, Dean and Alison)
Remember we have a few places on our Thursday morning group with Portia see details at:

DLRR road trip to Ashridge Forest – who’s coming?

If anyone would like to join Helen Vaughan from the club and her Tring RC friends for a run in Ashridge one Saturday morning, please e-mail to or let me know and can pass on to her.

Date yet to be decided but likely latter part of February, say 22nd, but will be confirmed  It is all off road and bound to be muddy.  Refreshments afterwards in the Monument Café.

Car Parking at David Lloyd

Again this year, till the end of February 2014 runners can park in Gullivers Land for club runs - the car park acts as an overflow car park for David Lloyd and should be open during David Lloyd opening hours (I would not leave the car there till the last minute - think closing time 11:00pm)

Improving your 5K time - course full

Following fantastic response to the Improving your 5K times the course is now full - but anyone else still interested can register and we have a waiting list

MultiSport - Golf!!!

Not since the days of Jon Bywater's "anyone want to buy a sofa??" have there been many random items in the newsletter, but this is one of them, as its nothing to do with running! Its about golf. Random!! So, there have been a few discussions recently on the daytime runs about golf, and it turns out we have quite a few members who play! And some who think they play (you know who you are!!).

Anyhow, thought it might be an idea to maybe look at starting a Golf Society for those members that would like to play a bit this year. Not specifically a DLRR Golf Society, but a group made up from current members of the running club. The very organised Mr Jonathon Clements, ably assisted by Mr Kevin Orchard, have volunteered to have a go at sorting this out! So, anyone who plays, or would like to be involved in a few games this year, get in touch with them or via me!

Saturday parkrun graduation

Our Monday night beginners group graduates at parkrun this Saturday, 18 Jan, and those who have volunteered to be buddies and the beginners, can you meet in the mini bowl at Willen at 8-45am to get paired up ready for the parkrun.
Don't forget to register for parkrun with your club as 'David Lloyd Redway Runners' and bring your printed bar codes.

pacing @ parkrun

Well we are going to do it again - that is Pacing at parkrun, looking at the 18 January, which also happens to be the MK parkrun birthday event - was prompted that we do this following the mail in received, which you can see below. Also it is a way that we can give something back as a club - especially as we have so many of you volunteering every week - not really looking at have a DLRR only volunteers week as we are there every week.

Anyway can you help - you will qualify for the volunteer points and have agreed with MK parkrun that if we can not fill the slots will open up to others - so come on - if you can help please let me know what time you will run

I just wanted to update you on the amount of positive comments received from parkrunners when we paced a few Saturdays back. I have actually had people come up to me asking when it would happen again, thanking us as they have achieved there PB's, they felt it was brilliant as gave them goals and to push themselves, also one new parkrunner asked me a couple of Saturday's ago where my number was and why this wasn't done weekly?
I think this shows what value DLRR brings to such events and that we are keen to help others. The feedback has been great and maybe something we can do more often (not weekly though!!) I would be more than happy to pace

So far have these slots filled:
19 mins
19:30 Graeme Bickle
20 Stuart Sullivan
21 Paul Woodward
22 Ian Brookes
23 Simon Read
24 Simon Baker
25 Spencer Ollington
26 Steve Burlace
27 Lucy Richards
28 Glenn Dickinson
29 Andy Worth
30 Jonathan Clements
32 Miriam Averna

On this date we also have our beginners group doing parkrun so Russ will be looking for buddies as well

Let me know if you can fill the slots 20 minutes or less or 29, 30, 31 or 33+
