Dublin club trip this weekend

The clubs second overseas trip of the year happens this weekend when we have over 30 traveling over. Most are going on the Friday evening flight.

Saturday morning we are planning a trip to the parkrun at St Anne's Park, Raheny, later in the day going to the event Expo to pick up our race numbers for the race.

Sunday the Rock n Roll half marathon starts at 8:30, then, some of the group are planning to follow the race with a 3K fun run.

Sunday night I am sure will be an opportunity to celebrate our hard work!!

Hoping we get some good photos from the trip

Redway Runners Furzton Relay 2015

Furzton Lake is a lovely setting for a relay race although the weather wasn't on our side on Sunday.

However, we had an amazing turnout with 41 teams taking part in very wet conditions. First place went to AFF Fantastic Four with a team time of 56:40, second place went to Three Men and a (very quick) lady with a team time of 57:56 and third place went to the Shenley Saints with a time of 59:49.

A massive thank you to the volunteers who didn't stop encouraging the runners despite being very wet and cold.

The results and photos are at;:

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped.

Redway Runners Family fun run

30 of us had a nice time down at the Cathedral of Trees by DL. We played Follow the Leader, Sharks & Islands, Domes & Dishes and even a new one "Toilet Flush".

After the games we set about the serious business of some competitive obstacle racing. Mack did his thing and the kids did their best to tire him out. We did our best to eat up some left over cakes and then all headed home for a cuppa.

Thanks everyone, I hope you all enjoyed it.

Veritie 100 miles

Congratulations to Veritie Yates who arrived back in Coniston at 7:36am Sunday morning after completing the Lakeland 100 mile event.

Fantastic achievement, we are all super proud - Veritie said '
Well I did it!! 105 miles and 22,550 ft of ascent in 37:35:28!

The race started 6pm Friday 24th July & I finished 7:35am Sunday morning. It's a full loop of the Lake District National park from Coniston, Boot, Buttermere, Keswich, Dalemain, Mardale, Ambleside back to Coniston.

My husband Keith (also a Redway Runner) was entered in the 50 mile race that starts 11:30am Saturday from Dalemain. He managed to catch me up with 30 miles to go & stayed with me to the finish.

I started running with Redway Runners in January 2012 having only run consistently for about 6 months previously & having lost a lot of weight following years of been a couch potato!

I did the easy bit 1st September last year entering the Lakeland 100. Since then it's been a roller-coaster of emotions from I can do this to how stupid am I for even contemplating it!

What I can say is that I've had some fantastic support from Redway Runners throughout.

Although I knew I'd have loads of messages of encouragement, I couldn't actually access them due to poor signal & needing to conserve the battery in case of an emergency.

So thank you all who sent messages & apologies if I missed replying to anyone. Special thanks go to Steve Morris for stalking the website following my progress & been a bad influence on me!! If anyone ever tells you it's bonkers, your mad, it's too far, you're too old, you've not trained enough don't believe them!!

For all you beginners or anyone who finds it difficult to step up to the next distance, it is scary but do it, you won't regret it!
Happy running!!

Snowdonia Trail Marathon

Well done to our Jamie Farmer who did the Snowdonia Trail Marathon and says 'Back home after an amazing weekend in Wales that almost defeated me.
Conquered the Snowdonia Trail Marathon in 4:41:52 finishing 12th out of 319. 5,642ft of climbing in gales and rain, spurred on by some awesome supporters which kept me going. Thanks so much to Vicky, Hayley, Denise, Nigel, Tracie, Lou, Benjamin and Richard for making the trip up, as well local support from Kris & Les, Darren, Bryan, Rob, Bethan and Teri. And a big thanks to Max for his support at his first race as a Redway Runners!!
Big congratulations to Dan George and Danny O (first marathon!) for also taking on the challenge and surviving!! — feeling broken at Snowdonia National Park.'
