November Challenge

Had this through from Glenn and may be of some interest.
------
The challenge is simple - set yourself a target number of days, anything from 1 day to the full 30 days, and walk or run 1 mile further each day!
You can do it however you like, whether it's walking the dog, leaving the car behind and walking to school or work, or good old fashioned running. It's fun for all the family, with the aim simply to encourage a healthy lifestyle, and raise money for a great cause... the Thyroid Cancer Support Group Wales.
The kids can get involved too, with an option of doing 1 mile per day for 30 days!
Entry costs just £15, with no minimum amount to raise, and if you can't make it to the final day in Saundersfoot, we'll send your t-shirt and momento out to you, meaning you can take part from ANYWHERE in the world!

MMU Sports Compression Clothing Research

Been asked to circulate this - do not know anything about the credibility of the research or request so please do use some caution
-----
I am a Doctoral Researcher at the Manchester Metropolitan University, where I am carrying out a study into sports compression garments within the Department of Apparel, Hollings. The study focuses on the development of smart compression garments and seeks to determine user needs and core values, which will aid in the development of enhanced, functional compression garments designed to meet athletes' needs.
I am contacting you to ask for your kind assistance in distributing my online survey. I would like to invite the members of your athletic club to support this research by providing us with their views on compression garments and product preferences. I would, therefore, be very grateful if you could circulate this email to your club members.
The survey can be found online here:
https://qtrial2013.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_3w7xmPPz1GLxRtj
Whilst some research attempt to measure the effects of sports compression garments, knowledge about athletes’ perceptions of compression garments and whether existing garments fulfil athletes’ needs and expectations is currently lacking. Your involvement will help build this knowledge and shape the future of enhanced compression garments that support athletes in their sporting activities. Using state of the art technologies within the university, the research will measure, test and develop smart compression garments that will address and provide more efficiency and an enriched performance to users. There may be opportunities to trial compression garments and to experience the latest technologies used to develop these at a later stage of the research.
Data collected remain confidential. If you have any questions about the survey or the way the data will be used, please don’t hesitate to contact me at kristina.brubacher@stu.mmu.ac.uk.
Thank you for your time and support.

Kind regards,
Kristina Brubacher, Doctoral Researcher

The Sunday run on the 4 October is going to be a paced run at Willen Lake. It will be up to 90 minutes so suitable for all abilities even if you just want to come along and do one lap of the lakes. To make it work we are going to need some people to come forward that are willing to look after a pace group and then try and stick to that pace. It would be great to cover as wide a range of paces as possible. If you are interested then contact Paul Woodward

Squeaky Bone 2015

This year’s Squeaky Bone takes place in Clifton Reynes near Olney on Sunday 1 November at 10:00am.

Organised by Olney Runners, this 3.5 mile event is open to all ability levels, you just need to have four team members.  Each member runs the entire 3.5 mile cross-county route and then hands their Squeaky Bone baton to the next team member.  We have always had a good turnout for this fun event and hopefully we can muster up plenty of teams this year.

If you would like to take part please e-mail Kevin Orchard (kevorchard@yahoo.com) your name/date of birth and pay the £10.00 entry fee - by bank transfer referenced SB15 to the Redway Runners bank account;
  • Sort code 301553
  • Number 42390360
  • Name; Redway Runners
or by cheque payable to “Redway Runners”) by Thursday 15 October 2015.  We will then create the Redway Runners teams and make the entries direct with the organisers.
