Beginners group - Update

The current evening beginners group with Glenn are really progressing well, with parkrun soon coming up on the 14 March, they have started doing some practice on the route on a Saturday morning, one of the group, Hayley wrote the following which we thought we would share:
Thank you to everyone who came out on the practise parkrun route this morning, really glad we did it now know where the tricky bits are, where to change the pace and most of all where the finish line is.

I have improved so much on my fitness and ability to run (couldn't run for anything 7weeks ago!!) And breathe at the same time! To all those who have shared experiences and advice with me, you are an inspiration and I listen and take on board all you say.......just not yet conquered the run and talk back to you at the sometime yet lol - could be a blessing!

British 10K

Been asked to pass on details of this event on the 12 July
My name is Rachel and I am the Events Fundraiser at Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity. We have limited spaces available at this year’s British 10K London Run on Sunday 12 July and we would be delighted if you could promote this to your members.  I have detailed some information below and attached a poster.  Would you be able to circulate this information to your members, please?
Dear Runner,
Would you like to run one of the UKs most popular road races and make like better for seriously ill children?  Or are you looking for your next challenge?  Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity have limited spaces available at this year’s British 10K London Run on Sunday 12 July and we would be delighted if you would like to take part by joining our Marvellous team!
The iconic route takes in many fantastic sights, starting at Wellington Arch through the heart of London via Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square, Victoria, Somerset House and London Bridge, finishing at Westminster. For more information on the event and route please visit:
We support each of our Team Marvellous runners by:

·         supplying a Team Marvellous running vest
Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity helps to make life better for seriously ill children and young people in the UK. We believe that every child has the right to a more marvellous life, no matter how ill they are, or short their life may be. We focus upon helping those who have the biggest needs, and who aren't being fully supported by anybody else. This might be because they have a serious rare condition, be living in poverty, or not have any family at all. We help children from birth to their 21st birthday, across the UK and some of our programmes also bring global benefits.  We make life better for seriously ill children in many ways including Roald Dahl children's nurses, family grants and research.
“I chose to run for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity because of all the amazing work they do to make lives better for seriously ill children. I’d only done 5K runs before so it was a new target for me. The route is really beautiful, going right through the heart of London. I found the day really fun, and because everyone is running for a charity, there’s a wonderful sense of celebration and goodwill; it’s not about timings.” Isy Mead, 2013 British 10K runner
We ask individual runners who have secured one of our charity places to pledge to raise a minimum of £200 of sponsorship.
For more information and to sign up for your place email: or call a human bean on 01494 890 465.

April club Social - bowling

We have decided to make a change to the club social in April for Bowling on Good Friday 3 April - rather than going for the corporate package we are going to book two games for each person and then go for a drink in Wetherspoons in the Xscape before or after.

So the cost for 2 games will be £14, if you want to come along then make payment to the club bank account by the 18 March and we will get the lanes booked (subject to availability) and confirm the times we have been able to book.

The club bank account is:

  • Name; Redway Runners
Then drop a mail to to confirm you have paid.

Those who had booked will be contacting shortly

Membership Renewals

It is getting to that time of year when club membership expires (31 March). Good news is club membership fees are staying the same at just £5 for another year, UKA have increased the fee to £12.

Anyway you can renew now, the easiest way is to make payment (£5 or £17) to the club bank account:
  • Sort code 301553
  • Number 42390360
  • Name; Redway Runners
Then drop a mail to to confirm you have paid - if any of your details have changed let us know - if however you want UKA on your membership and you have not had that previously then we will need a form.

Or put payment in an envelop, write your full name on the envelop and pass to Martin at a club run. Cheques payable to 'Redway Runners'.

Redway Runners - March social - Quiz night

Following on from our very successful first quiz night last year, we’re holding a Quiz and Bingo Night on Friday 13 March – hopefully not unlucky for any of us! This will be upstairs at David Lloyd (7.30 for 7.45 start) with entry just £5 per person, pay on arrival, (which includes your bingo tickets for the evening).  Teams of 4-6 people for the quiz.  Don’t worry if you can’t get a team together though – we can always match you up with someone else.
We had a great turn-out for last year’s quiz night. Let’s see if we can beat it this year.

Evening group Beginners Graduation

Date for your diary - Saturday 14 March, It looks as though we're going to have 60 or more beginners doing their graduation parkrun on this day and it would be great if we could pair everyone up with a buddy from the club.
